Need Help getting my new PC to connect the the internet.

Well, I just got my new PC today, and for some reason, I cannot get it to connect to the internet. I have my cable modem connected directly to it, and when I go into Internet Explorer or MSN it wont connect. Anyone know what my problem may be? (Custom PC by the way).

Not a whole lot of info to go on, but one question does come to mind: are you logging into the cable modem? I don't know if you need to run a particular login utility to get your modem onto the net or not, but I do remember the initial problems I had with DSL and getting it to remain logged-in. Once I got my router configured and running, that took care of the logging-in for me so I don't have to log in each time from the PC.

just run the disk that came with the modem, that will get you started (need to run it, though if you don't have a disk, ask your cable company about it)
