  • Is This Good Deal?

After a lot of undecisiveness about wether I need a new computer or not I decided I want to try and put one together (I am a C.S. Major I need to learn how to do this).
So I havent done that much shopping around online but I will.
I did however check out my local computer store and this is the "Ultamite Game" system they offer. Just wondering what you guys think?

$ 1014 + $120 for Labor, or I can try and put it together myself.

    C4L 7N400Pro2 FSB 400 8x agp Dual-Chan 512(2*256) mb DDR 400 mem/ 120 GB 7200 Rpm HD
    52x32x52 CDRW/16x DVD/ USB 2.0 Lan sata
ATI 9200xe 128mb DDR DVI TV out
    Ath XP 2600+ 2GZ 333 fsb
+ keyboard, Optical Mouse, and some Speakers

(this is exactly what he wrote, I asked for list of parts but he said its basically all writen. the motherboard was made by Gigabyte)

What I had in mind before going to the store was an Athlon 64 3000 and ASUS A7N8X Deluxe Motherboard ATI 9600, basically just copy what alienware sells, but is the machine their selling at my local computer store that bad? It doesnt sound that good to me considering what other people made for 1k.

thats definitily not an "Ultimat Game" system. I built one for way better then that, for only like $200 more. They also charge labour but it's only $50. They run tests on it and everything to make sure it works and they install a OS(and OS is optional) to make sure everything is running correctly. If you live in canada i highly suggest this place. www.ncix.com if your in the us i hear www.pricewatch.com is pretty good

        To make it better!

That PC is good EXCEPT! the graphics card, so it is definetly not the ultimate gaming system, why not change that card with a ATI RADEON 9800 PRO 128MB. That would make it a formidabla gaming machine.
        Hope that helps!

The computer is not THAT bad but that's an AWEFUL deal. His markup has got to be 3x and that's shitty. He should make more than 25 or 30% profit on a sale. Those are the guy's that bitch that they can't get any business. I can't believe I recommended you go to a local dealer and they hit you with THAT. Check out my post here

That's a MUCH better computer at half the cost.
