        412e/730m
        3.3 Gpixels/sec
        412 Mtriangles/sec

        the 9800 pro (128mb)
        380e/680m
        3.04 Gpixels/sec
        380 Mtriangles/sec

and the much cheaper 9600 xt (doesn't need 300w psu or molex unlike the 9800/9700, so im stuck with saving up to buy this)
        500e/600m
        2.0 Gpixels/sec
        250 Mtriangles/sec

Do not get the 9800 pro 256mb version. I was using a Geforce4 Ti4200 128mb card for most of my time playing, but I spent 320 on a new ATI 9800 pro so I could enable some picture quality effects plus higher the resolution...

I highered the graphics quality setting to the way I wanted them (just enough to improve the picture), then done the same with the resolution. The game was laggy and choppy. So I turned down the settings and it was the same, I then turned down the resolution to the same as it was with the Geforce and STILL the game just wasn't as smooth as with the Geforce.

I thought it was the driver I was using so I downloaded past drivers and tried nearly all of them. But its the same.

I dont know what all the hype is for and its DEFFINETLY not worth the money (at least not for FFXI).

I hope the XT version isn't like this for you.

Hmm, well, first of all are you talkin about the Pro or the XT?

"Do not get the 9800 pro 256mb version"

But then at the end of your post you say that you hope the XT doesnt screw up for me as well? Umm, right.

Maybe its your pc? Something else besides the card?
Anyways, I got the XT, and I have only heard good things about it.:spin:

I think people need to learn to understand that just because a game messes up for them, it doesn't mean it will for everyone else. For every 1000 success stories, there will always ALWAYS be at least 1 bad story. The 9800 XT is currently the best card out on the market. The only thing I've ever heard bad about it was that it is "too far ahead of its time." But hey, if you've got the money then you probably want it to be pretty damn far ahead.

I hope you know the performance of your PC isn't based solely on what video card you have. You need to take into consideration of the CPU speed, RAM, etc.

"... and so I close, realizing that perhaps the ending has not yet been written."

? No.... I didn't say that. "I hope the XT version isn't like this for you" ......that doesn't mean I have the XT version. Speaking in general about ATi Radeons 9800

                      Anyway, here are my specs:

                      P4 2.4ghz
                      1gig DDR3200
                      ASUS P4S800
                      80gig HD
                      PSU 400w
                      Windows XP pro

I'm pretty sure my CPU can work with the vid card. Its not THAT old compared to others CPU's with this vid card.

I think people need to learn to understand that just because a game messes up for them, it doesn't mean it will for everyone else. For every 1000 success stories, there will always ALWAYS be at least 1 bad story.
Yeah I've probably bought a messed-up model..... but even if it was "messed-up" wouldn't it just 'not work'? or wouldn't it just artifact?

Pffft.. I have a radeon 9800 XT with a dell 250 watt powersource, works fine, no random reboots like many would think i'd be getting. Overdrive is running too so it's slightly OCed.
