  • Mem, 3200 vs. 2700?

    How much better is 3200 RAM, has anyone tried both and experienced any major differences, i'm going to buy 3200 anyhow because it's less than a few dollars more, just curious.

    I cant be sure, but I think

    2700 = 333 speed ram

    And

    3200 = 400 speed ram

    Thus, 3200 is signifcantly better.

    Clarification anyone?

        Personally I do not believe it will make that much of a difference for just a single game. But make sure if you're going to buy the 3200 that your mobo supports it, otherwise u just waisted some money lol. If you plan on running multiple, memory-intensive programs at a single time, the faster option is better because all programs run from your RAM. But if you only run 1-2 programs (or many programs that are small) at a time, the 2700 will do just fine. You just want to make sure to have around 512 MB with either one u choose. And that isn't significantly better :-p That's only a 20.1% performance gain... Ok, it's good i'll grant you that haha

            Make sure you get a mobo with Dual Channel compatability, and shove 2 x 256 Identical sticks on it, for an easy performance boost.

            I still maintain that 3200 is better my a great enough amount to go out and buy it. But if your mobo doesnt support it, then yes, you've wasted your money.

              Also, as heretic said, get two identical sticks. most mobos will mess up if u give 'em 2 different speeds or 2 different varieties of ram ol.

                hoot, already made sure of that, i built a computer with a similar configuration as the one i'm buying(except a way cheaper gfx card) and the mobo runs dual channel quite nicely, except the previous comp i built had 2x 256mb PC2700, so maybe i'll notice the difference, i'll try and get 2 sticks then . thanks
