  • Serious Problem With My Internet!! Please Help!!

Ok, I have this problem, I don't think it is serious, but it is really driving me up and down the wall. I have my Internet icon short-cut on my desktop. When I establish a dial-up connection, it doesn't show the little computers down on the task bar, the connection icon. So I can't disconnect. I check my "My Connections" folder, and my Network Folder, and it doesn't even have the icons in there. So I went to the short-cut, and hit the target button, it took me to an empty folder. I can still use the short-cut as if there is something in there. I am really losing patience with this. I have made a new dial-up connection, the as soon as I restarted my computer it dissappeared, like the other one. And the short-cut still works, and is claiming there is something in that empty folder. All I want is to be able to connect, and disconnect again lol. Please if you can help me, I'd really appreciate it. I will be on for a while so please please please help me!!

    Thanks in advance!

Im not sure, but it might be a problem with windows. If you want, you can try reinstalling it.

Hmm, make sure that the icon isn't hidden; right click on your taskbar > properties > customize

                  Other than that.. no idea.

Or you could get yourself a decent broad band connection. Modems just don't cut it nowadays.

i know what is that i had the same problem before.. if you have a virus scan program, just use it. i think you may find something or in my case, a cluster worm that damaged all files in my windows folder. and if you find it, only way to fix it is to reinstall entire programs in your computer or move those file folders except any folder that your really cant move like program files to anther HD if you have a good one or new one,so you will have only to reinstall windows XP

                          same problem

I have the exact same problem as u.

This happens right after I install FFXI. The first time it happened to me, i was suspecting it might be FFXI, but i'm not too sure. But today, I juz formatted my C drive, and reinstall windows, and the modem status icon came back to me. I was happy.

Then, the next thing i did is to install FFXI again. Right after installing it, i check my dial up, once again, the modem status icon wouldn't appear and it totally disappear from my network connection folder.

I'm also using Windows Xp Home Edition. Using dial up as well. IF you solve your problem, please let me know...Its driving ME CRAZY to disconnect from the internet by unplugging my telephone cord!!!!

oki so far i've gotten it fine

This is what i juz did:

I uninstalled my modem driver, and then i reinstalled it.

After reinstalling the driver, i use the package from my dial-up company to set up the connection, the shortcut that it places on the desktop didn't even work (even the icon design is a null one).

Hence, i deleted the shortcut and i tried create a new connection manually. And i dial in...and guess what, the modem status icon appear at the taskbar!!! man i was so happy =)

I'm now patching my pol...i donno whether the icon will remain there after all the patching, but at least for now it did.

I've been tortured by it for the past 6 weeks and its only till today that i format my com. well, i'll keep u informed of any new changes.
