Random crashing

For some reason my pc keeps crashing. I can play normal for any amount of time before it crashes and the screen goes as different colours, similar to the effect that you get when you overclock a gfx card too much. My gfx card card is a ti4200 64mb and Im only using 256mb sdram. Could it have something to do with there not being enough memory? (btw my card isnt overclocked at all, I even tried turning it down a bit)
