  • Simple Suggestion On Vid Card

All right..Now I know it's asked a lot, but these forums are here for that reason. Anyhow, I have the following system:

    Gigabyte 7N400L Socket A

    2500XP Barton

    512 Ram

    60 Gig HD

Now say I have 300 bucks to spend...what is the absolute best video card to buy, with FFXI in mind, as well as other games?

I just built my system and it is almost the same as yours. I regret buying a FX 5900 due to the amount of in game lag I get not only on FFXI but on Halo too.

If I could do it all over again I would buy a 9800 PRO. You can buy one on pricewatch for 300 and BestBuy has them on sale for 300 too.

    My system specs

    windows 2000
    AMD 2500 Barton Core (1.8)
    A7N8X Deluxe Mother Board
    2x 256 OCZ 2700 rev. 3.2 (2,2,5,2 timing) DDR 333 dual channel
    evga 5900 graphics card 128
WD 80 gig (8 meg cache) set to ultra DMA mode, with write cache enabled.
    Enermax pure 430W
    high speel cable

I find that my Nvidia GeForce Ti4400 works well (They dont sell 44's anymore) so id go with a Ti4600. older but better than the newer FX cards

I would suggest an ATI card, the 9800 pro is great, and if you can go for it the 9800 Pro XT. However the XT is not much more then the 9800 Pro just a faster version, not by much though.

I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.
