  • Display Drivers.....help?

Ok so i got a Radeon 9800 pro, updated drivers to the ones that were realesed on 11/2/03, and start playing FFXI. All is well till i reach the dunes....Im playing and for no reason, my PC restarts with no warning or anything. Windows loads, and i get an error msg saying something like "Display Drivers have caused the computer to restart". So now im stuck....i have no clue what to do. Ive tried re-installing the drivers, no luck. Ive tried tuning down graphics and same results. Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated.

    Specs:
    Pentium 4 2.8 HT
    Radeon 9800 pro
    1gig RAM
    XP OS

Ask if ya need to know anything else.......

    try this

get the cd your graphics card came with and install the drivers on the cd, basically downgrading the drivers (i know this might seem insane but the new radeon drivers have had issues). See if ffxi will run the dunes. if that doesnt work then try finding certified (whql or whatever that acronym is) drivers for radeon.

thats all i can tell you. hope it helps!

If you're using the Catalyst 3.9 drivers disable the VPU recover.. also check your BIOS and try turning AGP fast write and performance management off since that can cause issues sometimes. as well as checking the SmartGart tab in your video properities to make sure that AGP fast write is off there as well.

IF all else fails try reverting back to Catalyst 3.7. That was a rock stable driver release.
