  • Finally a new computer!

Hey, I'm getting this for Christmas through IBM for nearly half price methinks. (My dad did a huge deal with them awhile back)

Anyways, can anyone tell me if this is an alright system? I'm not getting into the nitty gritty of specs though, because I don't know much about that stuff.

    Processor: Pentium 4 3.2GHZ
    RAM: 1GB DDR SDRAM
    Hard Drive: 80GB
Graphics Card: 256MB AIT Radeon 9800 XT w/TV-Out and DVI
    Monitor: 17" LCD Flat Screen
    CD-ROM: 56X cD-ROM Drive
    CD-RW: CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive
Sound Card: Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
Speakers: Creative SBS250B 2-Piece Speaker System, Black

    Anyways, please comment.

Thats about the baddest mother you can buy in these times. You are going to kick some serious benchmark with that!

The only issue there is the LCD, which is poor for gaming...

Congrats on the kick ass comp!

Ps: Oh And at one stage, you are going to want a speaker system with a sub...

Well, that's the problem... this is costing me upto nearly 3000 dollars (Australian) and I can't spend much more (apart from the other essentials) so I can't get a decent sound system, which I don't mind.

What kind of monitor do you think I should get? I don't know what's good, is a CTR monitor good? Because they are cheaper and then I may be able to get a better sound system. xD

There was a topic on this before, but I cant be bothered finding it, so ill give you my 2 cents:

Basically, LCDs "blur" or "lag" when you are playing fast paced games, which will eventually result in you kicking the crap out of your monitor.

CRT is the go, its a gamers dream. For the price of a 17" LCD you could get a 21" CRT if you played your cards right, and then you would be kicking some serious ass.

Flatscreen CRT's do two things: Reduces Glare (by alot) and Look Cooler. That will add 50-150 bucks to the price.

Yeah, then you COULD by a kick ass sound system.

        Nice comp man!

Okay, so I will get a flat screen CRT. A 17" one would be a fine addition to my new computer? I don't really want anything oversized like 21" as it's too big for my purposes.

Yeah, thats fine. May I suggest the brand BenQ, which are cheap as cheaps and are of a high quality standard. Should cost you $300 AU.

Dave (The guy next to me) suggests that you should get a 19" Pure Flat, around $380. Its all a matter of preference.

With your newfound savings, you can buy a better Sound System (My Personal Preferences being Boston Acoustics and Altec Lansing)

            Good Luck

              Thanks heaps Heretic.

IBM ThinkVision C190 19" Flat CRT Display, Black - What do you think of this? It's around $300 and I am ordering this computer through IBM so I though it'd be alright.

Creative Inspire 4400 4.1 Speakers 3 Satilites + Subwoofer, Black - What do you think of this? It's around $130 and it goes with the black monitor and I'm getting a black tower.

If it's no good, then tell me some better things for around the same price (can go a little higher for the speakers though, not too much).

That Moniter is Perfect, but God knows how you got it for $300. 19" all the way!

Those speakers are great, and will look extremely sexy alongside your black computer. Creative is definatley one of the best brands, and wont dissapoint. (BTW a 4.1 kit means you get 4 sats and I sub, the Sats are 6w and the Sub is 17w)

                Excellent choices.

I give this my absolute, but not uncommon,

Well the monitor is actually $330. But hey, what's $30? Anyways, thanks for your help Heretic, much appreciated! Going to give the list to my dad tomorrow to tell the guys at IBM to get started on it.
