Ok, anyways I had a question to ask you guys to see if you could help me. When I run FFXI, I can get to char select screen and load my char up but when the map is loading, recently ive been getting this wierd problem. I use to beable to play normally, but sometimes I did get this same error (edit: the error looked the same all messed up with rainbow colors, I didnt get it often i was able to play for a few hours, restart, its all good still, then one day I can't even logon a char). Since I cant print screen it, I took a pic with my cellphone cam ^_^. Here are my comp stats just incase it helps.

OS:Windows XP Pro. (no service pack 1)
Vid. Card:GeForce 4 Ti 4200 64mb
Processor:AMD Atholon XP 2200+ (1.8ghz)
MotherBoard:SOYO KT333 Dragon Ultra
RAM:DDR 512 MB (forgot the speed -_-)

lol, first of all thanks for the heads up info, at least now I don't have to waste a post asking for that info...

Regardless of the problem with your refresh rate(im preatty sure its a refresh rate problem, ill explain in a min) You should still update to service pack 1, and go though and check out what updates you need and what you dont (in windows update). Update your video card drivers, just for good measure.

Now for the real problem. Im almost willing to bet that its a prob with A) your monitor B) your video card or C) both.
Just lower your resolution in the FFXI setup program.. its been while since i played the import but there should be 2 resolution settings, one for text overlay and one for the 3d world. Lower them till the game works better. You may also want to update or check for drivers for your monitor. When your res switches to the game, it changes the refresh rate... your monitor may not be able to handle that resolution or refresh rate... you should set the refresh rate to default or auto, whatever your drivers have a setting for. but it should be under display properties, settings, advanced (the button), then Monitor, check with your monitor maker to see what it supports, but if it goes out of range like in your picture, well thats what results.

hey thanks, when i tuned down the reso's, it works fine. But, I was wondering if i changed the Hertz my monitor runs at would that help?

yikes, a few days later, i was playing for about 20 mins or so and this popped up YIKES!
i could still logout but the graphics went WOWZERS!

hmm can really see whats going on, but it looks to me like a prob with the backbuffer resolution... the actually 3D part of the game... that could be a whole host of probs. just try the usual update drivers and what not.

Update on the vid driver made it go back to picture 1..then set default settings in FFXI config so like everything is low..i think. And thats about it, seem to get that problem then need to logout log back in, that is if I'm fortunate enough....if not its a restart.

edit: windows is also updated completely
