  • My PC crashes in the dumbest situations...Can anyone help me?

My PC has developed a habit of crashing completely (yes, completely, no mouse movement, no Alt+Ctrl+Del response, nothing) in the most STUPID situations I can think of.

    Stats:

    Intel D850EMV2 motherboard
    P4 2.53 ghz 533 FSB
    512 MB PC800 RDRAM
GeForce 3 Ti200 128MB (will hopefully be a 9600 PRO by the end of november)
13 GB hard drive (I know, I know...)

    Situations that regularly cause crashing:

-Scrolling down with the wheel in IE (I use Mozilla)
-Changing levels in a multiplayer game in JKII
    -Random crashes during Starcraft games

It's possible that I have an overheating issue, but all my fan slots are used...Man this is SO frustrating...

this is an os/software problem my most chances. just be sure to have the most recient drivers/service packs, and the new version of mozilla

other than that, not enough info.

Windows update. Latest drivers. Update software. Next is update BIOS, and last but not least, heat. Heat is what might be causing it (that was the case for me) So take your side cover off your computer, and do your usal things. If it doesn't crash, get some fans.

If you have the time/ability, perhaps a reinstall of Windows would help out. Because of bit-rot I try to reinstall the OS around once every 6 months or so, and it makes a big difference. Also, if you are able to get a copy of Norton Utillities (included in Norton Systemworks) you can run WinDoctor to see if there is a fixable problem on your computer.

Well, thanks for all the input. I have all my drivers up to date, I just defragmented and cleaned my HD, and just updated the BIOS. No crashes so far...but I need to test more "dangerous" situations. If not, I'll have to find my Windows 2000 CD again...
