Hey there guys... Like the subject says I need to buy a new computer. Mines not going to cut it for FFXI so for right now Im borrowing my dads comp... I know that wont happen forever though. So my question is... where can I find a decent AMD comp with a good price? Id like to keep the price under 900 if possible and I want an ATI card in it. If anybody has any suggestions or good computer buying sites that would be great. Thanks!

I'm not sure if you can find an amd comp here for under $900 that will run FFXI, but I like this site for custom comps.
http://www.falcon-nw.com/
Or you can try to peice something together here.
http://newegg.com/
Like I say, I don't know if you can find something that will run FFXI decently for uner $900. gl

why do people keep severly over estimating this game... I played this game on a 1800+ with a gforce4 and it was great... high res too. You can get a comp under 900 EASY. Just build yourself one... and if your too afraid too, then stick to your Dells and gateways and dont bother with computers. Its time to start learning about computers and its not that hard to make one.

this one will run HL2 decently... not great but decently.Crichton @ Lakshmi Lvl 11 Theif Lvl 5 Monk Lvl 5 Rdm

That's a good system for very cheap. You'll just need system memory (256mb should be fine), a floppy drive, a keyboard, a mouse, a network card, speakers, sound card, and a power supply. Here's what I'd suggest for those
System Memory: Corsair 256MB DDR Ram module
Floppy Drive: Doesn't really matter, but it's good to have one
Keyboard: Your call. (I like Microsoft Natural Keyboards myself)
Mouse: Microsoft Intelli-Mouse Optical works well
Network Card: Intel Pro /100 Network Adapters work.
Speakers: Creative Labs has some good quality cheap ones.
Power Suply: Enermax has some good cheap ones.
Sound Card: Creative Lab Sound Blaster 128 PCI sound card should do if you're looking for quality low end stuff.
I live in Canada so I can't use newegg.com myself, but it looks like it has very good prices for high quality stuff. I'd try there. And Chrono's stuff is all good stuff too. If anyone has any other suggestions for any of this stuff, listen to them too. And you might be able to salvage some stuff from your old system (ie. speakers, modem). If you can, why not do so.

You can build a good computer that will run FF11 with EASE for 600 bucks.
AMD 2500+ XP/MOBO COMBO-200
512 PC3200 DDR-75
ATI 9600 Pro 256-150
HDD(dunno waht size you want but around 70 bucks)
Sound card/Network card(in mobo they will work fine)
Case w/Power supply 420W-70
CD RW-50
Speakers(its a computer dont be stupid with them)
Mouse and keybaord(you already have a computer your current are fine)
Monitor- if you need this then ya 900 is around what you spend.
Ok so around 700 bucks you got a kickass comp. Not including monitor speakers mouse and keyboard. This is what i am building right now.

oh wow i didnt add ram to that list.... sorry
OCZ if you wanna OC, Corsair if you want quality but not top top of the line. get 512 in 2 sticks of 256, try to get a dual channel package, but if you cant, its fine if you buy em separate, you can still use dual channel just that when you OC it the timings may not be matched.
God damn why do we still use floppy, we need to dump this legacy crap.
I'd go with the 128MB version of the Radeon 9600 Pro. It suprisingly benches higher than the 256MB in most cases, and none of todays games can make use of the 256MB.
Ill vouche for Newegg.com, the roxors 3 days flat not business days real days... 3 days to get to my house from cali... or NJ if you live on that side of the country... but it was uber quick, nothing damaged, and cheap prices.Crichton @ Lakshmi Lvl 11 Theif Lvl 5 Monk Lvl 5 Rdm
