  • Which port does FFXI use?

I need to know which port FFXI uses to connect, because my provider has blocked all ports under 1024 except 80.

Also, is it possible to use a proxy with FFXI?

Don't think you'll have to worry to much. The ports under 1024 are all mostly default ports for stuff like FTP and Telnet protocols.

TCP and UDP ports are usually much higher ports numbers. You can use a Proxy, just depending on if you setup any personal firewalls or how the proxy works you may need to find what TCP and UDP ports the game does use then to make sure those ones are open for it.

go to your router, foward ports 50000-65535, both tcp and udp to your ip. problem solved. no proxies are needed.

        From the FFXI Website.

+ Port numbers that may be used by the PlayOnline server group:
        -TCP 25, 80, 110, 443 or 50000 - 65535

just open tcp and udp for 50000-65535, it's easier that way.

Problem is that it's not me who blocks these ports. My ISP does this. I don't have a router or firewall myself. I can see ports 45, 110, etc... under 1024 could be in use. These are blocked, except for port 80. Do you think this will be a problem?

Don't worry about it. If it doesn't work than tell your ISP, and they will figure something out.

25 TCP Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)
                (Used to send e-mail)

80 TCP Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP)
                (Used to browse webpages)

110 TCP UDP Post Office Protocol (POP) Version 3
                (Used to receive e-mail)

                443/tcp http protocol over TLS/SSL
I'm thinking routers, not really sure, never done anything with port 443

I don't think your ISP will be blocking any of thouse.
