  • Making a new computer

Since I'm completely unable to upgrade my current computer, I've decided to build one this time, and do it right. (The old one is a vaio and it is physically impossible to upgrade the video card without buying almost half the parts to a new computer anyways)

So, this is what I'm getting, I wanted to get an idea from you guys how well this will perform.

    1.87 ghz processor
    radeon 9600 pro
    512 mb ram
    80 gb hd
A really sweet case (not important, but still ^_^)

What do you think? I know the ram is a little low but getting a gig would cost an extra 100$

All those stats are well beyond the requirements. I have:

    AMD 1800+
    Radeon 8500
    512 ram

and I'm playing it with no problems. One of the things I like about this game is that you don't need cutting edge technology to play it.

Just make sure you have around 6 GB for the actual game and you're set!

Oh, one more note though, all that hardware will be useless for ffxi if you don't have a good internet connection.

ps What kind of case are you getting?

Your computer should be able to play future games, including FFXIOnline. In the future you should consider to upgrade your RAM as RAM can make all the difference. How much RAM on your video card?

Oh ya, moved to computers topic You'll get more replies...

Ah well the ram on the vid card is 128 mb. (Though a friend said that doesn't matter as much as other aspects of the card) And as I said, I can't really afford to get more ram, but if I happen on 100$ this christmas that might be what I'll buy. Since you can add ram in increments I figured too little ram would be easy enough to fix.

Oh and I was trying to find the case to show you all, but I can't anymore. It was in my shopping cart at newegg.com but when I ordered the stuff, it cleared my cart. Now I can't think of the name, lol. It's really nice though, it's got a sleek metallic feel to it and has a clear panel on the side with blue lights.

Thanks for answering, I'm glad I made my own computer. I have so much more control over what I really get and aren't getting screwed over by sony. Plus, all this stuff in a retail box is probly 2x as much.

that is true. even agp 8x is overrated for the ti cards, and pre 9500 cards. the 128mb ti4200 with 8x agp is less than 7% better than my 64mb 4xagp ti 4200.

i should make a new computer too, considering i have celeron and no agp slot, how much would it cost for this system

              geforce 4 ti 4200

i kno this isnt specific and very very broad, but whats an approximate, also i dont know alot about computers (like i dont know about amd, duron and the such) so does any have a good site that has lots of computer info and how to build one? thanks

go for the 9200se, it's cheaper, and you will need money to get a new comp. im guessing you have a compaq or gateway... those cheap #@$%ers.

you're going to have trouble finding a decent pci card. The 5200 by pny is the only pci card I saw at all on sale at best buy.

You might want to consider buying a new motherboard with an agp slot. Just make sure if you do this, you have someone look over your compter first to make sure the new mobo will fit and the agp slot won't be blocked.

That coputer you want wont hold water.

First off do you expect this to play other games??? FFXi should be FINE. But not flawless. ALL MMORPGS are RAM hogs. go sell your bike and buy another stick you need it. (or you will come back here crying asking us why ffxi slows down and your harddive is spinning like a tornado when fighting a behemoth:sweat: ). If your going for future games like half-life 2 please buy atleast a 2.4. Your 9600 is good for 6 months then it dies.
