Well I just got DSL which is cool but... it's slow! I mean I started doing downloads in Kazza and it went 20k a second which great for me! but in the pass two days it's going real slow my downloads go 1k or 2k or even 0.50k!!! I have verizon DSL and it says it's going 12.0 MBPS But I remeber in my friends house it went 100.MBPS is there anyway I can make it faster? Please give me tips or something. I feel like I am on 56k.

Mainly the only problem I get is downloading thins going threw pages is so quick,

well there isnt much you can do I'm on cable an sometimes it does that you just have good hours an then they are just bad hours to download stuff around what time does it do this Best time to download is when all the little kids are in school

You think you're the best, but there is always someone better.

When you download things off of Kazaa or some other peer to peer program the speed is usually limited to the upload speed of the user you are downloading from. Some people who run Kazaa like to let mulitple people download from them at once so their upload speed is split, and not everybody on Kazaa uses a broadband connection, meaning if you download off of a guy with dial-up then your speed will be limited to that.

kazaa is always on a bad day... i suggest you stick with good old ftp's and irc (if you can set it up that is, i can't seem to do it). those two are better controled, and have higher connections because most are real servers, not just peers.

Mr rico dsl and cable are two different things.

With cable people that live near you share the same "pipe".
so if 8 people are downloading porn on sunday morning you could experience slowdowns.

DSL avoids this problem, but does have some of its own further down the pipe.

You must remember when downloading you can only down load as fast as they send it to you. when you were on kazaa i bet the files you were downloading were from 56kers

and there is no such thing as 100mbs internet connections, unless your friends computer is part of an oc3 or back bone.

You should ask your ISP for your advertised download rate in kilobits per seconds. k(bits)ps and k(bytes)ps are often mixed up.

With your advertised downsteam, you can adjust your rwin settings. MTU is probably left alone, but may be changed on some types of connections.

Kazaa users will have crappy upload rates and don't represent your line speed well.

You probably won't be getting more than 10 mbps downstream on a dsl connection. Windows XP may claim it has a 10 or 100 or 1000 mbps connection, but that would only be to a switch/hub/router for local networking.

these are the speeds for ethernet, fast ethernet, and gigabit ethernet. i doubt you have 12mbit connection unless you have adsl or dsl which is mainly for buisnesses (both of these are about $100-300 a month though). if you have a router, the most of the connection you can use (if you have 2 comps, 3 or more will be worse) is about 80% using cables (cat5 cable/rj45 connectors), and less than 60% using wireless (i have 1-2-5.5-11mbit wireless). you probably pay a lot, unless you live in an appartment, and it has a dsl connection, lettting you pay much less, at the cost of speed.

wireless routers are unstable just so anyone knows. i am having problems with mine, i hav eto manually configure the ip, host ip, dns servers, everything else to get on the internet at this moment.
