  • RAM Question!

I am currently building a new PC, and was just wondering: is 512mb of PC2700 enough for games such as Half-Life 2 and Doom 3? I know it could handle FFXI, as people do fine with 256mb. Thanks!

for FFXI, not doom 3, youd need ATLEAST 1 gig mem to run HL2 and doom 3 TO THE MAX, now remember, there are 2 types of mem, CHEAP SHIT (samsung, or generic) and really good (OCZ *i have this brand* Corsair, or XMS) I have 2 gigs pc 3700 ram running at CL*2. So if ur planning to get 512 of PC2700 ram, itll only be good for FFXI.

so far most games require less than 512 ram, even high end games require less than 256 in most cases. the graphics card has to be high end for those games though. the old 440 ti processors are worthless, as well as a pre 9000 ati.

Actually 512 will play Doom3. At QuakeCon they were using Athlon 64(Engineering sample). 512MB RAM, and a GF FX 5900 Ultra. Some review sites say that there were a few slowdowns. I would highly reccomend 1GB anyways. Latter on you will be glad to have that much.

you are an idiot element master, slots 1&2 and slots 3&4 must have equal memory sticks in them. slots 1&2 have 256 in each, and slots 3&4 have continuity moduals in them. i either get 2 256 cards or 2 512 at the same time. you are a novice when it comes to computers. i did say rd ram in the other post, so you made the error not me.
