Warning, though while I like the setting and timeline of this short series, there is quite a bit of nudity, sex and violence, sometimes all at the same time and it can get pretty graphic. While it has its bright and happy moments, it steadily gets more serious, depressing and sometimes even sinister. Its one of those animes where being an immortal is often shown to be a curse more than a blessing.
Don't look for bright eyed children or coming-of-age tales here.
No, they didn't. That was Imagin, Funimation only butchered it with the localization like they always do with any series they get their filthy hands on.
The bloody f'ers...
PS > Imagin also made the Love Love+Hit wo nerae+Cosprayers trilogy.

Has anybody mentioned Haruhi yet? It fits in with the "God anime" theme and while it did go pretty mainstream, it's nothing like the other animes you mentioned that you don't care for.

If you didn't read the novels then the 2nd season would be freaking annoying because they went to town with Endless Eight for... well, 8 episodes. Which pretty much consumed the entire season.
The movie seems to have done well, but until this moment I didn't even remember I still had to download it. Although I read the novel the movie is based on so it's not like I'm missing much. <_<;
I still need to finish the Nagato ark and get the Koizumi novels, but I've never liked him even after Bunretsu.

PS > But there was a very good "artistic" reason to do the anime like that. It's conveyed much better in the novels of course, but Endless Eight was all about Nagato. And while they did a pretty good job showing as much character development for Nagato within the parameters set before, it may have been way too subtle to spend 8 anime episodes on it. It probably would've worked much better with 4 episodes at most for the Anime.
