      Oh, Bleach.

      Nothing important, then.

All the best animes in a season or two. This show missed its chance by exceeding the limit.

Yup. As a rule of thumb, anything that lasts longer than two seasons doesn't have a story to tell. No one likes to hear people ramble aimlessly.

I follow the same rule. I haven't enjoyed anything with more than 26 eps. Except Kenshin. But that's pretty cliche nowadays.
Burning questions are burning: Is jenova_9 really a girl and is she cute? Does she talk like that in real life?

Oh mew that is not troo!!!! Some people just have short attention span or something, mew! Look at how much more epic things like Sailor Moon, Fist of the North Star, Dragonball Z (before GT), Naruto Shippuden, One Piece, and other things gotten more epic and interesting, mew!

Take Final Fantasy IV, VI, or VII for example, even though that's RPG, those stories are like worth 4-8 seasons of anime, mew!

Way to illustrate my point J9.

And fuck off trying to bring video games into this. Totally different medium, totally different standards and units of measurement(for lack of a better term coming to mind).

Re: Final Arc!!!! The Final Holy War!! Thousand-Year Blood War!!

Final Fantasy is different. Not only is is essentially a season of shows, its usually self-contained to one installment (though sometimes we see it deviate from that now).

Persona 4 practically was an anime and it is now literally an anime, too. Nicely done, too.

But everything you listed pretty much wore out its welcome after a bit. DBZ and GT were never as good as Dragon Ball. Naruto Shippuden actually seems more well-liked than its original series - so perhaps they should have gotten out of Ninja Hogwarts a bit sooner than they did.

Anyway, the reason anime tends to not hold a great deal of interest in the west is it tries to be too broad and have too much expository writing. That might sound artistically good and interesting in Japan, but over here dragging things out comes off as a bit pretentious. You have to have a great deal of talent to take something that's more than run its course and keep it interesting. Metal Gear and Zelda seem to often tap that magical ability, but Kingdom Hearts as just about milked it dry.

Metal Gear likes to use history or current events as a staging point for what it does, though, and Zelda leaves enough ambiguity to still make things up as it goes along.

When you overexplain your story, though, and there was little to tell to start with you then run the risk of becoming irrelevant. That's what a lot of anime becomes. That's not to say American TV isn't the same. We're coming up on the 500th episode of The Simpsons, after all. How many seasons of Friends were there. How many Law and Order, CSI and NCIS spin-offs have their been? I don't know how the hell Final Destination got to a fifth movie, much less a second one.

                  Wait... it didn't end after Aizen's arc? I just stopped watching soon after Ichigo went Supa-Saiyajin 3. <_<;

"Anyway, the reason anime tends to not hold a great deal of interest in the west is it tries to be too broad and have too much expository writing." That is not true, mew! >< Don't generalize the west as if everyone is a picky, short attention spanned closed minded fool, mew! Anime is accepted enough in the west and many people find very long anime stories 100000x more fascinating than anything the west put on TV, especially all TV cartoons! but really mew, just because many westerners don't like anime doesn't make their opinions fact, they are just different tastes, mew! It has nothing to do with region or culture, people all over the world can be open and more interested in stories from other regions regardless to what they were used to or are used to. Those that seek more epic stuff and more broad subjects and more vast experiences, really benefit from epic animes like this mew! Even if some arcs might trip, newer arcs can make things better! (also most DBZ fans: DBZ > DB.)

Except Avatar: The Last Airbender is better than Bleach and that's not an opinion; it's a fact.

It's not a matter of attention span, it's a matter of poor presentation. Good writing does not ramble on incessantly without saying anything the way a lot of animes will. Are you familiar with the phrase "Brevity is the soul of wit"?

Shakugan no Shana is on it's 3rd season plus 4 specials (Shakugan S) while being awesome all the way. And Bleach only started really going down after the episode 80-ish of actual content, when the first Espada arc in Karakura ended (not counting fillers) and then proceeded to go to hell once they got to Hueco Mundo. So that rule needs to be amended to around 150 episodes. 100 is a turning point for long running animes and by the time the series hit 150 writers are pretty much guaranteed to be completely out of ideas.

PS > Either way I wish more good animes went all the way to 24-26 episodes instead of 11-13.

One of the biggest gripes I have with manga-turned anime is FILLER. Why can't they be like western series and just take a freaking break when they run out of crap to animate? Sure, you get a *few* good filler arc's here and there but for the most part, it's crap story written by people that have no business writing story. It's a huge factor on why several anime has turned from a potential 100~200 episode series into something absurd like 400+.
