Well, I think they still want people to go out and buy the games.

Xenosaga, on the other hand, should have just been an anime in the first place.

The Devil May Cry anime is about as weak as the games in terms of character in story, which isn't surprising to me. Episode 3 oddly approached something close to worthy of Cowboy Bebop, but just barely missed it.

That's mostly my problem with Dante. He's someone that should be more like Spike Spiegal or Solid Snake, someone that grows in strength because of his past and that past allowing him to empathize with others even if he'd rather not get mixed up in their affairs. Dante doesn't want to grow, empathize or understand.

And when you think about that, it makes you wonder why people are so worked up about this new version of Dante Ninja Theory has come up with. Its not like the old Dante was a good character.

I wouldn't have wanted them to just adapt the game's story to anime and call it a day of course. But I mean, theres a ton of story we never got to see.

Remember all those character entries you unlocked by taking them on missions? That's easily material for 2 seasons of content without even touching the game's story much and just following the timeline of events, instead of making a re-telling of the stuff that happened in the game.



And as for Dante... he is supposed to be the cool detective type of character. Someone who knows it all and has seen it all but still heavily flawed. And the way I see it his main job is to remain kakkoii through out the story.

Or at least try to.

It all depends on what Capcom is really doing with the story, but since I've never been a DMC fan I don't particularly dislike the change, just wish they would stop with the "reboots" and just treated these games as the different franchises they are. orz

Well obviously I don't go to this part of the forums enough.

I am shocked and appalled that you have not seen any Clannad until now TGM. If you have only watched Clannad: After Story I recommend watching Clannad, even I am not bold enough to watch After Story >.>

Though now that you have seen it, notice anything about the women I typically pick as avatars?

You have seen most of what I'd recommend, however....

Please Teacher: Just picked this one up, and there is a bit of fan service and I'd label it a bit echi in the very last episode, but overall cute and I rather liked it. Think a bit like Oh! My Goddess, but they actually go somewhere with their relationship.

Think I recommended it before, but Emma: A Victorian Romance is just flat out awesome and one I highly recommend.

Oh, and I would recommend anything by Studio Ghibili. Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away are probably my favorites, though Porco Rosso is a close contender. But it's almost like having a favorite Pixar movie, they're all so good in such unique ways you can't really have a favorite :/

The Twins in Shakugan No Shana bothered me... Otherwise I thought season 1 was interesting. Rune Soldier is silly and really funny. I think those are the only two that might not be quite to your taste.

I watched some of Please Teacher but again, it was because I had a hard time finding all the episodes. I did enjoy what I saw though!

Emma sounds like one I would really like so I'll have to find that one.

DN Angel, Voices of a Distant Star, Rune Soldier, Vampire Hunter D, Heroic Age, and Escaflowne are all covered. I'll check into the rest....except 5 Centimeters! lol And yes Studio Ghibili stuff is a must to watch and I have. Now they are making an RPG and I am extremely excited about that!

Overall, it seems my preferences in Anime remain consistent. Supernatural/Fantasy, Supernatura/Modern, post-apocalypitc and Futuristic (but practical) Sci-fi/Cyberpunk. Seems I'm still not veering that far from GitS, Cowboy Bebop and Hellsing.

I'm going to take that as a good thing.

Well, there's also the giant dishpan eye thing. Shit creeps me out. Its why I had so much trouble watching the original Xenosaga cutscenes. Men got real eyes, women didn't.

I also like that something like GitS: SAC feels much more like an American crime drama more often than it veers to Animeland. Everything seems to make a bit more sense, things are sensible even in the midst of a convoluted plot. Every character is strong and defined. And for all the overwhelming cuteness of the Tachikomas and the devil-may-care approach to Motoko's wardrobe (are these jeans not covering my hips enough) everyone seem seems to maintain their dignity.

Its just a mature show. Hell, you could lose the heroine and it would still be something worth watching. Sure, Motoko is smart and sexy, but her team is so well balanced that there are episodes the go without her.

Then there's Desert Punk - which isn't any of those things. It feels more like if Kevin Smith got to do a post-apoc anime. Its lewd, immatture, over-the top, the male lead is undersexed and the female lead very blatantly oversexualized. Desert Punk is supposed to be some badass warrior, but deep down he's a complete moron. And then never seem to run out of euphemisms, you keep watching to see if they'll eventually star recycling boob lingo, but they just keep coming up with new ones.

And Cowboy Bebop lands somewhere in between. You've got a strong, balanced team. The father figure, the badass/slacker, Daddy's little girl who could be the father's granny (damn cryogenics) and the computer geek kid. And the smartest person in the room? Not a person, but a Welsh Corgi. They go out on various jobs, wins some, lose some. Win or lose, always back where they started (broke).

In a lot of ways, its like Seinfeld - an anime about nothing. They will go on an epic adventure to the ruined part of Earth to retrieve a relic like a Betamax videotape.

Well I actually have to be careful what I watch when he's around period. Once he came over by me at just the right time...or wrong time! It was an anime and they zoomed in on the cleavage of a woman and it was a bit bouncy....."GRANDMAS LOOKING AT BOOBIES!!!" is what I heard next.... I was mortified even if it was in my own house. THEN he proceeded to tell his dad about it who complained to my daughter who didn't have any idea of what happened and came storming in my house yelling "WHY ARE YOU WATCHING PORN WHEN ALEX IS OVER!?" So ya...gotta be careful what I watch around the kids because kids can be very embarassing! (And then trying to explain anime to non-anime people is like pounding a railroad spike into your temple...It's now a family story that get dragged out at every family event which is so not cool.)

Lucky Star is too meta to be the Anime Seinfeld - it requires knowledge about anime pop culture to be understood. (Lucky Star also relies heavily on character archetypes.) Azumanga Daioh would be a better fit.
