Re: Anime Movie and Series Reviews **NO SPOILERS**

Well, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood ended just a couple of weeks ago, and it was hella epic. It wasn't quite as dark as the original anime, but FMAB followed the manga so it was more true to the original plot.

Funimation is slowly adding the English episodes now to the site, though if you ask me the JP voices were excellent. 10/10, was truly awesome especially as the ending was much more conclusive and enjoyable compared to the 1st anime.

Naruto and Bleach are still going on even though Bleach is technically done now ( I think, the Manga should be just about over I know it's in the last chapter both in the manga and show) but if anyone's still following either, Naruto has been getting really good lately. Sadly I hear there's yet another filler arc once The Invasion of Pain ends.

I second that Simon and Kamina sound lamer in English than in Japanese. They just don't sound as manly. It was disappointing for me.

I've heard great things about FMA Brotherhood, though I haven't seen it myself yet.

I watch FMA on AS every Saturday (well, I guess it's technically sunday) and it's an absolutely great show, even dubbed and aired on TV. The original series was great and FMA:B is just that much better (and a LOT different). It's certainly better then the other new series they got which features once again whiny little kids doing whiny little kid things. It's a show that would have been better suited for the old Toonami block then to be on Adult Swim as the show isn't all that mature, graphic or hell even violent. No worse then anything else they had way back when.

It's actually kinda sad that FMA:B is the only good, "new" anime series on Adult Swim right now, they brought over so many other great shows but nowadays they just seem content at showing repeats of Cowboy Bebop, GitS and Bleach.

I was up last night being sick, decided to keep the TV tuned on Comedy Central's AS-wannabe-insomniac-block for awhile, then switched over to AS. One of their cards claimed that recent anime has been sucking, so they're not bothering to get new stuff right now.

Which is kind of a shame, AS would be a great match for SZS, if they could find someone with the cajones to try translating it. And it's about the only way it'd ever see a serious release in the US.

On anime I'm actually watching right now, is anyone beginning to suspect that Mugi is a domestic abuse victim?

Re: Anime Movie and Series Reviews **NO SPOILERS**

From what I've watched of Blood and the live action movie and now the series, the only bad thing is the live action movie tried to cram all the emotional bloodletting of the series into the last fourth of the movie, which totally didn't work.

I like the animated series the best because it puts Saya's life-long traumas into a more realistic context. If I had lived that long and seen all that death in my life I'd probably crack every now and again, too. There are facets of Kai and Saya that do get annoying, but they're offset by a stronger cast than the other productions had. If anything, the only real character the series could have done without as Mao. No one likes dragging around an annoying bitch, sorry. I think the reporter was better off on his own and I can't blame Kai for wanting to take off to places without Mao knowing.

Ever wonder what would happen if some of the premise of Gurren Lagann met the world of Digimon?

Large image that belongs in spoiler tags

This is from Digimon Xros Wars, and believe me this isn't the only similarity.

I always liked how every season of Digimon goes with something completely different from it's previous stories, and how they always kinda start off as a simple "kid-and-his-pet-monster" thing and usually end up in some twisted mind-raping over epic series finale. Sadly I couldn't really get much into the last season since it aired so sporadically that it was hard to follow it, but it was still kinda cool watching this little punk human kid running around punching giant monsters in the face just because he could.

AS has always been biased against anime, but that never stopped them from showing some real crap shows. Blue Gender and Pilot Candidate spring to mind instantly as shows not really worth watching. For a while they barely bothered to show anything, and shoved new episodes of Code Geass and Moribito into a 4-5am timeslot, just to cram in more family guy. While I'll agree that anime doesn't seem as good as it used to nowadays (nostalgia goggles are go!) there's still plenty out there they could pick up that would fit well with their programming. Though Kekkashi isn't one of them imo. They just prefer to run syndicated or original stuff, especially live action or cheaply animated series since they're easier...and cheaper to make.

Also, I'm not familiar with SZS or Mugi...and when I tried to google mugi it brought up pics of half naked chicks on body pillows (with safe search turned on!) so I'm gonna avoid doing research on it for the time being...

Maybe CN figured they already had the rights, so they may as well rebroadcast it to fill a slot on AS at some point.

Eh, I fell out of touch with the series when Tamers aired. Season 4 (World I think it was?) was kinda neat but again it just couldn't hold my interest.

Right now I'm excited for season 2 of Strike Witches

Still not familiar with SZS, but I have heard of K-on!. Some sort of slice-of-life show with a bunch of girls in a band. Haven't actually see the show though but I do know the name.

And AS was indeed the ones who aired Pilot Candidate, though according to the wiki it was originally slated for Toonami but never aired. Actually, after looking it over, I realized that they've had far more bad anime then good, but it still would be nice if they brought back some of the other good series for a while. Though I do love my Cowboy Bebop and GitS, goin Trigun on people's asses would be a nice change of pace for a while. Or maybe re-airing Samurai Champloo or s-CRY-ed for a while just to get something different on the air.

Pretty much. Not profound, pretty good. Think Azumanga, but with everyone trying to achieve goals for more than one episode. I mostly watch it because the language is very simple, so it makes good practice. Watching K-On!! and WORKING!! without subs currently.

OMG I used to like Case Closed back when it was coming on. I might have to get back into that when I run out of anime to watch.

Right now I'm watching Eyeshield 21 which is like watching a long version of Kenichi: The World's Greatest Disciple and instead of being about martial arts it is about Football (On episode 123/145). I started watching it hoping to find a sports anime that I liked as much as Major and Haijime No Ippo. I'm on season 6 of Major since they just came out with a new season, and I've been hooked on that anime since episode 5-6ish of the first season.

I was never much for "Slice of life" stuff to be honest, especially the heavily japanesey culture ones. I mean, I couldn't even finish watching Azumanga...not because it was bad, but because the show didn't really catch my interest. I doubt I'd like either of those other shows too much for the same reason, but I'd totally be willing to give SZS a shot since after reading up on it, it doesn't look like it takes itself too seriously.

Come to think of it, I can't even remember the last "new" anime I liked. I'm so far behind nowadays I don't even know what's out there, the newest stuff I really watched ended up being shows that came out and finished a few years back.

I don't blame you. I basically enjoy them the same way I enjoy sitcoms. Never brilliant, but very likable if you find one with characters you like. But no, SZS isn't a slice of life at all. It's a comedy, but that's pretty much where that ends. The characters are mostly parodies of archetypes from popular anime, although a lot of them are so basic that they have appeal across culture (the sue-happy American, the person who seems nice in person but is a bitch online, the overly happy girl, the character who seems completely evil because they are, the endless cynic.)
