What I'm really curious about is the concept of a <insert series/movie/etc> being good or bad. How exactly do you find a universally acceptable rating system for that?

So, trying to label something as good or bad is pretty pointless in my opinion. There's what you like, what you don't and what you don't care about... or something along those lines. But they are all personal opinions in the end no matter how many credentials you might think you have or how many people may agree or disagree with you.

I don't think this is 100% true. Yes, there's a lot of difference in opinions, some judgements will be subjective, and it's hard to pass judgement on the entirety of a series, but you can still make reasonable assertions about it. For example, most people will agree that Mary Sue characters are bad, or that DBZ wasted waaaaaaay too much time between all the power-up sequences, shouting, attack preparations (hi2u Spirit Bomb) and such.

Although, you're right in the sense that it's kind of pointless to try to change people's opinions once they've made up their mind that some anime is the shit or pretty awful.

lol i agree on the DBZ taking too long part. There were so many people I knew that said the exact same thing when we used to watch it back in the day.

On that same note there are certain parts from the series that you remember and everytime you remember that scene you remember the awesomeness from it.

Scenes I'll never forget:

Vegeta (Over 9000)

Goku (Fell off Snake Way into HFIL (Hell))

Goku vs. Recoome (After training in that gravity, Goku was fast as hell and straight WTFPWND him.)

Goku vs. Jeice and Burter (Scene where they tried to hit him with beams and he dodged so fast the beams looked like they went through him.)

Vegeta vs Freiza (When Vegeta thought he was a Super Saiyan)

SSJ Goku Vs. Freiza

Trunks killing Freiza (Just makes me LOL that Goku barely killed him on Namek, and Trunks is so strong from the future that he just wipes the floor with him.)

Super Vegeta vs. Androids (Vegeta found out how powerful the Androids really were)

Android 17 killing Dr. Gero (I think I watched that scene over and over again)

I forgot the name of the anime but it has an 80's art style and it was about a doctor who was an expert doctor who will go around fixing people. The people were considered terminal or disfigures beyond help and he would be able to fix them. I watched the first three episodes and thought it was awful.

One episode was with the doctor helping his mother's ex. The doctor's mother died from something but it was linked to the ex in some way. (I think they ex left after the doctor's mother became terminally sick which caused her to die) The doctor had to fix the ex's girlfriend who was horribly disfigured. The doctor ask the ex if he loved his mother. The ex replied yes and the doctor made the ex's girlfriend look like his mother.

The ex's girlfriend was happy because she looked beautiful again even though she didnt have her original face. The ex was upset and the doctor he made her look like his mother because he know the ex was lying about loving his mother.

I thought this was the worst anime i have ever seen. The storyline is stupid. Then 3 years later the sitcom "House" is on Fox and I am hooked. Now I trying to find that anime again to see if the later episodes are any good. I thought any drama anime sucked but after watching "Monster" it changed my mind. Now I am trying to find the anime that I thought that were horrible and go at least 7 episodes deep before I pass judgement.

The same way you decide what's morally good or evil: take your own preferences and project them onto the whole world and pretend they're a fact. It works better if you don't admit this is what you're doing, even to yourself.

Failed. Inuyasha ended 6 months ago and Naruto is already more than 50 episodes longer then Dragonball. It's still about 70 episodes behind DBZ though, but I doubt it will end before it surpasses it.

Failed, because I meant Dragon Ball in it's entirety. Also, Filler doesn't count. Though technically, everything in Dragon Ball past Frieza is filler since Akira had nothing to do with it and wanted it to end there.

While we're on the subject of Death and Anime, did anyone else feel that Death Note had the most ridiculous, bull shit anti-climactic ending ever? I mean come on, I can't be the only one who was hoping Light was going to win and laugh his ass off as they all died. But no, they opted for the cheap cop-out. And WHY?! Why do that in an already very dark and morbid anime?! That's like Hellsing ending on a scene of Alucard and Victoria dancing in a field of pretty flowers with a Rainbow in the sky and a bunny in Integra's lap with Walter serving tea...

At least L was cool. Those are two fuckwits just annoyed me.

Mostly true. However, it's possible to understand how someone, however twisted, could justify murder in their morality.

It's impossible to understand how anyone could actually think American Idol is entertaining, let alone quality entertainment in any way.

And Death Note's ending wasn't really ridiculous, but it was a cop out. I was really hoping for an Artemis Fowl style ending, where the bad guy protagonist and the good guy antagonists both win. Kinda.

I can't believe I actually agree with Malacite on something. I think just to avoid this, I will force my brain to be happy that Light lost.

And as far as the overly-extended battle scenese in anime go. It happens in every even slightly popular anime of anything. The longer it is, the more things they have to include in flashbacks during fights. It's not too bad, but sometimes it's just so unnecessary it gets ridiculous. And most of the anime that don't do this, usually aren't quite as popular.


And, about the topic on hand. I haven't watched the Naruto anime since they picked up that interminable filler a couple years ago, not even when they continued the real story. I'm not much affected by this, cause I can still keep up with the anime as I'd like. Sorry to hear for your loss, and I know how good of a job dattebayo does, so I'm sure it only got better the more they did it.
