The anime was based off the manga. Actually, there's a lot of stupid confusion surrounding it too.

See, what TV Tokyo (I think it was them) did was they purposely aired the episodes in the wrong order. Then to further muddle things, the DVD release had them in yet another wrong order.

Thankfully there's a wiki entry that denotes the proper chronological order in accordance with the Manga and I changed the file names to match it before watching the episodes.

It's a damn shame the anime was only 14 episodes long. At least Lucky Star went on for 24.


^_^ Hirano Aya has such a beautiful voice too. It sounds more mautre/natural when she's voicing Haruhi as opposed to that fake lisp she did with Konata.

They say the correct order in the Anime though, Haruhi gives the real order while Kyon gives the order in which they were aired at the end of the episode.

They kinda had to do that because the first 6 episodes pretty much cover the whole 1st novel so it would've been way too short without the fillers from other novels.

I didn't know the part about the anime being based off the manga though, I always thought they'd based it on the novel.

The Haruhi anime was all about artful use of filler. Firstly, I'm pretty sure it's all based on material from the original novels, so it's not really filler. Secondly, it was used to flesh out the story and characters, instead of just fill up time. Someday in the Rain (if I remember the title correctly) is a great example of this. Thirdly, it kept the series moving towards something. If the series is watched in chronological order, the climax is before the halfway point.

Well it's based of a series of novels.


Also, filler by definition is anything that isn't in the manga/novel. Which actually makes everything after the Frieza saga in DBZ and even all of GT filler since Toriyama left after that. I don't give a rat's ass what anyone else says either, Akira says it ends with Frieza's death, and that's where it ends damn it. Screw Cell and all the other horribly drawn out bull shit that came afterward.

As far as I know there's no mangas, only novels. Also, I don't know what order the episodes were in the DVDs but in my opinion the anime is best watch in the order they were aired on TV.

I usually recommend people new to the series to watch it the first time in the order it was aired, and then watch it in chronological order after that.
