Have you ever been dissapointed with an anime's animation quality after watching its intro? While I find most show's introductions are better animated than the show itself in general (even if it is just a bit), some take extrodinary leaps and bounds in terms of quality. I bring this up now because I felt like watching the original Lodoss War again (which brings me to think of the Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the heroic knight opening).

For any of you who have seen Chronicles of the Heroic Knight, you should know what I'm talking about. The series' opening animation is one of the most beautiful intros I have ever seen in anime to date (we're talking OVA/movie quality, and the opening track is composed by Yokko Kano). The animation in the series, however, is quite standard for a TV series. I can understand the budget and time restraints, and I'm not trying to deminish the overall quality of the series. But I found this intro to be more misleading than others I have seen.

Not to say that I'm taking anything away from the anime itself, as chronicles isn't a bad anime at all. In fact, the story goes into more depth than its OVA counterpart. It just helps to emerse viewers in the world which the anime creates if the you don't have to worry about other things (ie: this came out a while ago, so I had bought in on VHS. the dubbing is pretty bad).

I just wanted to rant about this, as it kind of miffs me that a good series such as Lodoss War didn't get what it deserved in terms of animation. Usually, when you have a popular anime, the production values go up when you do something new.
