It will depends who you ask.
Gundam Wing to pureist is a crapiest of Gundam series. And it's true if you you're an old-school gundam fan, which Wing massacared it with pop culture fanservice. (G gundam not withstanding as how that got a gundam name I wouldn't know)
It doesn't mean wing sucks, but it's not much of a "Gundam" in many respects, reason it's an alternate universe.
Of course it seems things go full circle as Seed came around that proved that you can have old and new and still work. Seed/Destiny combines the core gundam ideals with pop-culture fanservice and still somehow had it work.
I would rather watch SEED then Wing to look at Gundam ideology, in fact Seed/destiny rips off all the best stuff from its predecessors.
I mean looking at Wing, it's more like sentai-ranger boytoy, then Gundam... That's not how war is suppose to be.
