ADV Films recently announced the release info for their latest Evangelion release, the Neon Genesis Evangelion Platinum Edition.
Of course, why do we need more DVDs of the same series...?
Evangelion Platinum is the 10 Year Memorial edition of the original series (EVA Project began in 1993), which was aired last year on Japanese TV and released on Japanese DVD in an exclusive, extremely fancy box set, featuring the entire TV series, all Director's Cut episodes, and the two theatrical features.
ADV's Platinum Edition is similar, in that it does include the completely remastered TV series and Director's Cut episodes. However, since Manga Entertainment holds the rights to the two films, ADV will not be including the movies on the Platinum Edition release, and since Manga took so long to release the movies and they only came out a year or two ago, it's doubtful whether they'll release the remastered films any time soon.
Special features include audio commentary by famous Evangelion staffmembers such as Matt Greenfield and Spike Spencer and storyboard animatics. The DVD release will span 7 DVDs, the first of which will be released on July 7th, 2004, carrying a retail price of $29.98. The first pressings of the release will include an exclusive metallic finish.
