  • Dragon Ball Z Tediousness..

    Rant Warning

Just need to get this off my back...

Whats the deal with Dragon Ball Z nowadays? How long ago did it end exactly in Japan and I'm starting to think it already ended in international countries too...

So why is it still around where I live? (Canada)

It wont friggin die, my friends are always talkin about it, I always see it on T.V... and frankly I'm getting sick of it. Its so bloody overrated. Going through the whole series again, I've noticed that its not entirely as good as I thought it was. There are other Anime which completely beat it down for me, like Samurai X and One Piece...

So how does this whole thing affect me? Well, where I live, they print and publish Shonen Jump, this Anime magazine thing... Its coo really, they usually print out pages from comics of One piece, Naruto, etc etc... Thats all really awesome since some of those manga series I have never even seen before, and would like to check em out. BUT they also do a number on DBZ... for gads sake I have them already, all numbers from 1-42 I have read several times over, and now they're rotting in my bookshelf.

Same for everyone else, I bet they already read or watched through it.. why the hell is this stuff still alive?

WWII ended nearly 60 years ago, folks still make movies about it

yeah, there's a difference between the two (a huge one)

Just that Dragon Ball is the most popular/successful comic/cartoon in the universe.

Well, at least it's not like American Comics, where Superman is still fighting crime despite 70 odd years, and villians never die, or they come back as cyborgs, or they never died because of a time loop, or they only lost their cyborg counterpart, etc.

DBZ was suppost to end with the Freeza fight, you know that? Toriyama Akira just got too many requests (threats, etc.) to soldier on (millions of U.S. dollar equivilants probably helped)

I agree with Streak. WHY did shonen jump have to publish DBZ? EVERYONE has seen it one way or another, they should have done something like rurouni kenshin or at the worst dragonball. Since it's more adventure based.

because Shonen Jump isn't just for fanboys, it's also to introduce people into manga.

And the only way to do that, of course, is to let them read DBZ

Yeah DBZ lags at pretty much every main battle, but the manga is soo much better. The question you should be asking is why is Yu Yu Hakusho is in SJ when a much, much better manga by the same guy could be in SJ...Hunter X Hunter.

According to a recent poll in Anime Insider, Yu Yu Hakusho seems to be the reader's favourite.

But yeah, I don't see whats so good about YYH... the art is kinda... blegh

Exactly and the story sucks compared to Naruto, One Piece and hell even DBZ.

"teenage boy becomes reluctant hero with an attitude" is as Shonen Jumpy as you can get

and it keeps on getting better, alot better
                  the art, at least.

I've never understood what the big deal with DBZ is. The art is horrible (burns my eyes, really), the fights are really, really slow and they're pretty ridiculous anyway (kamehameha! kaboom! *mountain dissapears*).

Tons and tons of better stuff availible, yet people keep hugging their preicous DBZ.

you forgot to mention the countless WWII games, i can barely take a step without squishing a WWII shooter

I never really enjoyed DBZ to begin with, I will admit i saw the first "movie" god knows what it was called and watched a few episodes but it never really sparked my intrest since the show seemed to get tired of itself and fill "fight's" with endless filler..."blah blah blah you've gone too far *such and such* (scream followed by some blue or yellow crap surrounding the person) blah blah (more screaming)..."then 5 episodes later the "fight" would finally get under way...I guess someone must be watching it if it's still on...

you tired of dbz? how about astro boy, that is much older, yet they have a fixed up version running on cartoon network....

if you don't like dbz, just don't watch it, watch naruto instead (going to be the same as dbz as soon as it's released in the US)

Naruto works the same way, I actually like having long dialogues and fights that last the better part of the season.

I prefer that much more than

                            "He-Man, skeletors attacking!"
10 minutes later, he-man throws a boulder at him
"I'll get you for this, he-man!"

                            repeat 5 times per week.

Yeah, it took a looong time to finally kill Freeza, but that's alot better than freeza being beaten and running away a 100+ times.
