  • Saint Seiya: Hit or Miss?

I don't know about u ppl, thats why im asking, but I've watched Saint Seiya/Knights of the Zodiac since I was 8, I used to watch it in Spanish. Now that i live in America I was delighted to learn it was being done in English, so I could watch it again! However, I get the feeling the American dubbing is really awful and can somewhat destroy the landmark anime/manga. I reckon they should change the voice actors or give them more training! What do you think of the Hades chapters, as well, as characters?
Anywhom, what do you ppl think?

Cant say cos I never say the dubbed version... But it would probably stink in my opinion. Dubbed anime is never good.

    <gets in a fire suit>

Yeah anyway, one of the best parts about Saint Seiya is the voices... in the Japanese one at least. MY GOD THE VOICES ARE SO WELL DONE. Dubbing it is as smart as wiping your ass with your grandma's fine china.

I have only one complaint against the anime overall... the heros are so damn weak its not even funny.
There's a patern going on... Heros get the shit beaten out of them, hero somehow kills the enemy.

I mean... I dont know, its just so damn tedious after a while

      Yeah

Yeah, thats how it is. Seiya and his company always get the crap beaten out of them and then somehow manage to summon increadible powers to defeat their foe. Your right, hats pretty much the pattern for every fight. However, you gotta love how realistic the emotions of the characters are, especially in the Hades saga, where the voices seem to suit it so well. The series on the whole is awesome tho.

        Yuppers

I watched it a while ago when I was like what... 8?

Didnt know wtf was going on but I always got a kick lookin at these guys do their "special moves"... sounds and looks cool. Used to really like Shiryu's Rozan Shoryuha.

Now after 7 years I watch it again, starting from the Hades Saga.. Wow man, simply I dont know how I could manage to miss the storyline... which was top notch in my opinion. The emotions, yeah they are pretty damn realistic... my brother used to joke about it: Women love this anime cos there's lotsa crying men, lol.

Indeed very well done anime... forgotten by the looks of it, though...

It's the first real 'fighting manga'

I loved it growing up (didn't even quite get the storyline)

          definitely hit.

"I Ran" is a nice choice for theme song, wish it wasn't a remake of "I Ran" though... It's really ALOT better than the totally shitty music they've crapped all over DB:GT with (Stop ruining good shows with bad music!)

            Yup

As I was growing up I loved it as well. Who didn't get all excited when Shiryu called forth the Rising Dragon or Hyoga the Aurora Execution? I always though Shun was the coolest since the chains are awesome, but the writers can make him the weakest and the strongest at different times. Only bad thing is that the Pegasus Meteors get a little repetitive but they're still cool!

Going off a bit on a tangent, but do you remember Ronin Warriors too? I always felt that show was on the same rails as Saint Seiya

I have never seen Ronin Warriors and barely heard of it, but I have seen some screenshots and yes, it seems to have clear similarities to saint seiya, such as the 5 main characters as well as the armour theme. Nevertheless, St Seiya has been a hit all over the world and the idea of basing an fighting anime on the western zodiac is awesome. Everybody can identify with the gold knight of their star sign. <The almighty Aries here>
