Here's a cool site I came across that helps explain a bit of the religious symbolism of the series/movie. It also gives some information on the whole concept of the story.

I thought the series ending was incredible, but I really liked the two movies that came afterwards as well.

Did anyone notice that at the end of the "End of Evangelion" movie Asuka has Misato's eyes, and is bandaged like Rei was?

I agree with Anom that the series ending is happening in Shinji's head while the rest of the world is experienceing the happenings of "End of Evangelion." The series ending is about Shinji coming to grips with the fact that the world is how you make it. Everything is based on ones perception of it.

        Just my two cents

        Evangelion rocks!

          -Looks like Asuka
-Has bandages like Rei always did (and I think red eyes instead of blue, but it's been a while since I saw it)
-Something having to do with Misato, but again I cant remember... maybe it was that necklace with the cross on it or something... gotta watch it again.
          yup :p

In the end of Evangelion, Shinji recieved the ability to destroy everyone in the world, or let everyone live happily and crap. He chooses to destroy it because he thinks no one loves him. After the Third Impact occurs, only he and an Asuka/Rei/Misato (Asuka hair and body, Misato eyes, and Rei bandages) woman are left. He actually brought Asuka back to kill her himself because she didn't love him, but he couldn't bring himself to do it, so I suppose they were to become Adam and Eve all over again.

Has many Kabbalah references such as the Sephiroth Tree of Life (Yes, I said Sephiroth). Many other hidden religous add-ins, but I don't have time to mention them.

Fairly confusing anime, but I really enjoyed it. The maker in Japan recieved over a million death threats afterwards though... When you see Shinji with words and the girls flashing around at super high speeds, I think he re-editied it and put some of those threats in... Not positive, just a rumor I heard. And that, my friend, is Evangelion in a nutshell. By the way, if you're still confused, get the DVD with the Actor Commentary and stuff, it's awesome.
