  • Sugestions on beginning anime?

Basically, all of the anime I've seen are dubbed and/or the ones at Blockbuster, and I'm getting tired of those. I'm gonna start buying DVDs. What are some series/movies you suggest I start with?

Fansubs are a good resource for anime. But if you wanted to go solely on buying anime DVDs, I would reccomend the following:

The full Neon Genesis Evangelion DVD set complemented by Manga's release of Death/Rebirth and the End of Evangelion

FLCL: Six DVDs, one episode each DVD.

Cowboy Bebop. Good set, 26 episodes spanned out over six DVDs.

Rorouni Kenshin. If you're rich. There are a lot of DVDs.

Samurai X (lame American name), the Rorouni Kenshin 2 DVD OVA. It's really good

Macross Plus DVDs, if you're into macross. And, if you are into Macross, don't pick up the ADV releases of the dubs. Get the more expensive subs, they're a lot better.

I could go on.. but the last reccomendation I'll make, as I'm looking at it, is the X TV series.

mmm actually a lot of the titles in cloud nine's list are not available on Region 1 dvd (north american). Some may be available on bootleg dvds but will most likely have really really crappy subtitles .

what kind of genre do you like?
since buying anime dvds can be quite an expensive hobby (at least in Canada it is  , its best to know what you really want.

For an anime to start out with, you could always try Outlaw Star. I thought that was a great anime, and it was my first one. Cowboy Bebop and Escaflowne are also some good choices.
