  • Knights of the Zodiac!??

Hmmm... Cartoon Network has just come out with a new anime called "Knights of the Zodiac" Isn't the real title of Knights of the Zodiac, "Saint Saiya"? Thats a retorical question by the way cuz i'm 99.9% sure i'm right. Why in the world would they change the name?? I'm sure no one knows the answer to that question but it's still very odd to me. Maybe some research should be done...by someone else of course, i'm far to lazy

It's actually "Saint Seiya." And, it's really, really old (but I bet anybody can tell because of the animation.) I watched it way back in the olden days but quickly lost interest so I don't know much about it.

As for why they changed the name I'm just taking a stab in the dark with a nightlight but I'm assuming it's because of the "Saint" part in the title. If you've been watching closely you'll notice that Cartoon Network is notorious for translating anything directly related to God/Devil into something that doesn't have much to do with God/Devil at all. Some examples include Devil Gundam's name being changed to "Dark Gundam" in G Gundam; Candidate for Goddess' title being changed to "Pilot Candidate" on Adult Swim. So "Saint Seiya" being changed to "Knights of the Zodiac" is the least bit surprising.

really, it's been changed to knights of the zodiac by the company releasing it everywhere but japan. way back (10 years i believe), i watched that show in argentina (they speak spanish, so expect to translate the title to english), and they called it "Caballeros del Zodiaco" (can't get accents in). Guess what, that means knights of the zodiac in spanish. go ahead, check it. as for candidate for goddess, in argentina (went back this year and watched anime all night long) it's still candidate for goddess.

hmmm...hearing what Maxim said makes me think that cartoon network is trying to stay away from any religous conatations in their programs. I wonder why.

I personally can't blame CN for anything like this, I blame more Amercian censorship in general. It seems that American sensors are so uptight about insulting any sort of group, minority or not, that they try to neutralize everything to the point it loose all of it's flavor. Of course, this might be a side effect of the atmosphere that's been created in the US where just about anyone can sue someone else for the most idiodic of things... *shrugs*

Also, like Doppleganger mentioned, it might not be CN that changed the title. They probably bought the rights to air the show from a company that did the orignal translation, and that's what the company changed the title to. That's not all that uncommon either. *shrugs* (Kenshin on CN is an example of this. I had seen some of the US released DVDs and watched a little of the English dub before it was aired on CN. It's the same dubbing job that they're showing on CN now.)

I do think CN deserves at least some credit for showing some of the things that they do. (I really never expected ANYONE to actually air FLCL on tv...) Also, they're starting to get a little bit better about edits. At least on Adult Swim now they don't edit out all the cursing. It may not seem like much, but at least it's a step in the right direction.

Anyway, if you want someone to blame for things that seem strange in this respect, I say blame the instutions that uphold outdated and usless ideas on the way society should act. ^_-

Was the Saint Seiya opening song always basically "Flock of Eagles - Ran"?

No, the first saga used Pegasus Fantasy as the opening song. The second and third saga used Soldier Dream for the opening.
