  • Vote for your favorite question! (UPDATED)

THE POLL HAS BEEN UPDATED! Some questions were changed or merged according to feedback.
As such, the poll has been reset to allow you to re-vote.

After much delay here are the list of questions slated to be asked during the Final Fantasy XI Fan Festival 2007 Developers' Interview session.

They will be asked in the order in which the questions are most popular and if there is enough time we will squeeze in as many questions as possible. Place your vote now!

Please read through the question in the post proper before voting. Thank you.

Special thanks to the Moderation Team, StarvingArtist, and TheGrandMom for their help.

    --------------------------------------------------

1.) Since the ToAU update, many xp parties have adopted the "Melee Burn" style of fighting enemies in the higher levels and because of this, there is no real benefit to skillchaining and magic bursting. In the lower levels, most players do not see much benefit from skillchains and magic bursts so they generally do not do them. Are there any current plans to encourage tactical coordination between players in a hunting party through the use of skillchains, magic bursts, and other cooperative battle features such as expanding the damage or benefits via skillchains and magic bursts? Or is there a possibility of adding an entirely new cooperative battle feature?
    Original Question: http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/ask...exp-party.html

2.) The Treasures of Aht'Urghan Expansion introduced familiar Final Fantasy activities such as Chocobo Breeding, Racing, Hot-and-Cold and a 100 level dungeon in the form of Nyzul Isle Assault. What plans are there to include additional mini-games or to improve existing interaction between mini-games?
    Original Question:
    http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/ask...pect-wotg.html

3.) Earlier we were informed that a Windowed Mode will be built-in to FFXI, are you including this feature in the "Wings of the Goddess" Expansion? If so, what is your reasoning for providing it at this time?
    Original Question:
    http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/ask...owed-mode.html

4.) During the past Premier Site summit, concerns in regards to linkshell functionality to help manage linkshells were discussed, including the ability to transfer linkshells and other functions. What are the future plans to help improve community building between players using linkshells?
    Original Question:
    http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/ask...sferrable.html

5.) How will PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 support be addressed as PS2s are phased out with the PS3 becoming dominant?

It is understood that currently there are no plans to support the PlayStation 3 for FF XI. However, will there be an eventual support for PS3 users and will a DVD pack like the Vana'diel Collection for the PC be available for the PlayStation users? What will happen to PS2 users down the road in terms of support?

    Original Question:
    http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/sit...ubmission.html

6.) There has been a longstanding difference between the interest of the playerbase in playing certain jobs and roles and the percieved need for those classes for forming successful parties and alliances. Over time, this has caused many players and jobs to become pigeonholed into roles that are less enjoyable to play. For example, many red mages and summoners feel their jobs' uniqueness is eclipsed by their ability to perform the critical healer position in a party, many players who have leveled bard feel trapped by the demand of their job into never getting to play anything else, and there is a general sentiment of there not being enough tanks to go around. What solutions are you considering to make more necessary roles more attractive to players?
    Original Question: http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/ask...-balanced.html

7.) If you know back in initial development what you know now, what would the Development Team have done differently? What would the Community Team done differently?

8.) What plans are being made, if any and how, to improve the search function to allow players to seek on multiple jobs or otherwise make it easier to find XP parties? How will any new adjustments work and is there a time frame for when they will be implemented?
    Reference: http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/ask...-function.html

9.) How often has the player community suprised you with the many feats done since the release of the game? What were some of the things that were most memorable to you?
    Reference: http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/ask...tml#post736863

10.) What do you think of power-leveling new players by veteran players?

11.) What are some of the difficulties or experiences of interest you have faced building a game for such a diverse audience and trying to have them play together?

12.) This question will be put as number 10 after the top 9 are selected, with the remainder placed behind this question. As such, no voting is necessary for this question. What is SquareEnix's stance on account sharing and some players' request to have their "siblings's (or friend's) characters/content ID separated" from their account?

Wow this interview is going to be as hard hitting as a FEMA press conference. I'm glad we're not taking this opportunity to clear up stuff like the effectiveness of TH on HNM drops. The % difference between the levels of TH. The shunning of whms post 41. The GM's blatant bias towards Japanese players. The absence of tanks at low levels. SE's real stance on windower (if they don't allow it why don't they go after players like they were rmt). When they plan to fix spell lock and other such questions.

Yes, sure, let's ask them the formula for magic resists while we're at it.
The GM's blatant bias towards Japanese players.
Even if that were true, do you honestly think they'd admit to it?
The absence of tanks at low levels.
Not much they can do about it.
SE's real stance on windower (if they don't allow it why don't they go after players like they were rmt).
We all know their stance on windower: it's not allowed. If you get caught, you get banned. They can't "go after" people with windower, though. How do you expect them to detect it?

You had about 2 weeks to post your own questions. If you didn't, then kindly STFU and don't complain about the questions that got picked.

You're not going to ask the tough questions because you don't think they will get answered? Sad. You would have made an awesome White House reporter in 2003.

Re: Vote for your favorite question!

Right because they've always been so forthcoming with straightforward answers to TH questions.

We were asked to participate in an interview, not present an an exposé. If we asked them something like "What do you plan to do about the blatant bias of GMs towards JP players?" or something they're either going to deny it or give the canned "We are/weren't aware of that situation. We'll look into it." response.

The questions we chose are ones that the community has posted and/or shown interest in that we felt would be likely to get a quality response from the devs.

#8 has been asked in like 3 interviews already. They'd like to do it but it would involve overhauling the entire search engine.

I'm pretty sure #7 was asked too.

Why would we bother asking questions that aren't going to get answers? You think we should spend our time harrowing them on issues that they can't/won't talk about? This isn't a political rally. All that's going to accomplish is making them less likely to invite us back or hold Q&A sessions, shutting down our line of communication with them. And for what? You think if we complain at them about your party-forming trouble they're gonna suddenly wake up and force people to level pld for you?

Re: Vote for your favorite question!

No matter how you look at it, any questions that don't address game mechanics or new content are weak. A very small percentage of players are interested in how the game differs from what the developers envisioned. Most players are interested in understand how the game works so they can more effectively play it. Knowing that NIN was never meant to be a tank doesn't matter. People want to know how TH works.

Why bother holding a Q&A session with SE if all you are going to ask if fluff? I'm sure it gives you some sort of satisfaction to have access to the development staff, but if you don't use that access to ask the questions that are on players minds you are truly wasting the opportunity. Who cares if you will get a second chance to ask more questions with questions like these.

They will be asked in the order in which the questions are most popular and if there is enough time we will squeeze in as many questions as possible. Place your vote now!
Wouldn't be better to have a rapid series of votes, where the most popular question from the last round is removed (to be asked at the interview), and the remaining questions populate the next list of voting options?

This method is going to give you a good snapshot of what people thing is the most important question, but there will be no representation for second most, third most, etc.

Been asked hundreds of times, the answer is always the same, figure it out yourselves. It's a game, play it and use your brain.

The shunning of whms post 41.
This is a player issue, not SE's making and therefore not their problem to fix.

The GM's blatant bias towards Japanese players.
You mean the myth that exists because they don't do what some other player wanted? Grow up.

The absence of tanks at low levels.
Again, this is a player issue. SE can not make people play Tank jobs while still making the game fun for those that want to play it.

SE's real stance on windower (if they don't allow it why don't they go after players like they were rmt).
The 3rd party tool clause of the EULA isn't clear enough for you?

When they plan to fix spell lock and other such questions.
You were free to submit such question or vote for already asked questions for some time now. If you haven't voiced your opinions by now you have no one to blame but yourself.
