I'd rather that information wasn't public knowledge. You'll know when you get banned. The mentality should always be to avoid getting any more points. If people know exactly how much they can get away with then it becomes "ok, I've got two more freebies before I have to lay low for a while."

Re: PSA - How to handle other users you do not like.

without us mods being able to touch him for it by our own rules.
which is pretty much the problem. This forum isn't so big that we need strict rules and enforcements to keep mods from abusing their powers.

Just give two rules. Posters: Don't be fuckwits. Moderators: Don't get carried away.

I can honestly say that there isn't a single moderator here who's common sense I wouldn't trust more than a list of rules set in stone.

EDIT: Not that I have anything against BRP, when it's not begging for people to read his umpteenth idea for SE or look at his livejournal he's alright. I'm just speaking in general here.

I got 2 and I intentionally got both, you kind of will notice that with every red card I get. They are on purpose, tho the second one wasn't planned to be from taskmage, he was just quicker then the other mods.
I got a red card for telling BRP to take the words he put in my mouth elsewhere and shove it. I have a good guess who reported that and I don't really have an issue that they did. I just don't like people misrepresenting what I say, if you're going to disagree with my words, then you need to use MY words.

I don't report people, minus the one troll due to getting wrote up over Shut up and no action taken against his post. Atleast from this we can movbe forward and work for the community itself bbq, no personal shots between either of us. Less drama fights between me and you or me and feba, or who ever it happens to be at the time will be a positive outcome for the whole board. Something we can agree upon is always nice.
I agree, I made this offer to you a couple days ago.

I think we've all gotten wound up about a divide in the community that isn't even relevant to this forum at all. Personally, both sides can rot for all I care, let's improve the parts of this community that remain positive in information AND in attitude. We know what places are not like that.

If the ignore posters function would block threads showing up on the most recent BRP would be very quickly added to my ignore list for these reasons.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

Wait, did I actually refer to BRP as an 'it'? That's one Freudian Slip thar..

that would be kinda nice, be able to block all threads by a certain poster, especially if it was INDEPENDENT of the ignore function.

Better yet, why not a "sage" function, and an "autosage"? make sage an option right next to "show signature" and "quote message" in the quick reply box, check it and your post won't bump the thread to the top of the forum, but more importantly for most of us, it won't cause the post to shop up on "New Posts"/"Today's Posts". Also add an "autosage" function to add to various users, so the same effect happens to posts they make? Such as, if I put Sevv on autosage, when he makes a new thread or post, it doesn't show up on my New Posts lists, because really, who cares about Sevv's posts? But, his posts are still there to read, because he is occasionally funny.

That's just an example, and I actually probably wouldn't use this on Sevv, but I can think of some people where not outright ignoring their posts, but also not having to check threads just to see their posts would be very nice.

To spin off your idea Feba; a nice option for the board would be to keep the DiV Linkshell posts out of the top 10. I am very thankful to the mods for allowing us to have our forums here, but for the majority of the site it has no use and is a waste of space.

in general, keep private threads out of the new posts, I could agree with on one level, but then I'd miss out on the ones I'm monitoring, so no thanks.

I was talking purely on the DiV Linkshell threads, you're welcome to come stalk murphie all you want. =D

Can't you still subscribe to threads? That way you wouldn't miss them even if they didn't show up under New Posts.

I don't know how big of a task it would be to get New Posts to filter based on your ignore list, but since so many people have asked for it recently I'll bring it up to PiNG. Remember, though, that if anyone else replies to the ignored person that will still bump the thread, so the feature might not amount to anything if the community doesn't unilaterally ignore someone. Filtering server and linkshell forums would probably have to involve users opting in to a group that would specifically not filter those forums while everyone else would filter them by default.

Ehh, regardless of the size of the community I still think it's important for us to be fair and apply the rules equally to everyone. It wouldn't be right for us to ban, oh let's say Feba this time so I can stop picking on BRP for half a second, for something that another user would have gotten away with just because you'd been causing trouble or rubbing people the wrong way lately and one of the mods would rather you were gone. A lot of the time we—I guess I should speak for myself here—a lot of the time I see a post that I wish I could warn just to smack some sense into someone or get rid of them for a while, but if I refrain it's because I don't think it would be fair.

First, I don't believe it would be a trivial change. Second, the way I envision it, the top 7 would work by not showing threads an ignored person posts in as bumped and it wouldn't show threads they started, but wouldn't block them if I specifically go to the thread.

If ping want to let me set a toggle, on users I attempt to keep an up to date member list. Can keep a list of names who wont filter DiV Linkshell top posts.

Exactly, that's your common sense, not any rules. This is exactly what I'm talking about, you guys are smart enough to know when your actions are better or worse for the community.
