  • Temporary prohibition of Hotmail and Yahoo email accounts

At this time, the use of Hotmail and Yahoo email accounts cannot be used to register on this site. Existing registered users should NOT be affected by this. Only NEW users cannot use either domains at this time.

Please note that existing users whom change off the hotmail or yahoo email account that they have right now will NOT be able to change back to those two domains until the issue is resolved. Please make sure you want to change your email address before doing so.

I appreciate your understanding in this matter.

You shouldn't have anything like that unless you're logged in. If you're getting random ads while logged into this site, you're doing something wrong.

As I said, you shouldn't be getting any ads if you're logged into the site. If you are, you're doing something wrong.

Take a screenshot or something and forward it to an admin (or heck, post it here). Because your browser is obviously working differently from everyone else's.

I've never seen an ad here while logged in.

As far as the blocking of 'free' email accounts, good show. I tried unsuccessfully to have that implemented at one of my other forums for a couple years.

I can understand this action. Banning the username and banning the IP can only go so far untill it just gets overly annoying.

Also if you're seeing google ads it might be your browser where you have googles search bar or it could be that you're not signed in all the way...i'm really not sure.

Yeah its pretty much the problem on alot of sites. I know on myspace i used to get a crap load of them. I just used to ignore them. Figured it was just someone trying to get my email to send me spam for the rest of my life.

I guess i cant complain about the banners. I know i've made a few of them in the past. I have even made alot of really annoying ones as well..

Well as the title notes this is temporary, likely targeting the specific problem we've been having resently of accounts coming from those two free sources.

The link control issue has been resolved.

Until PiNG can get around to implementing the actual solution (I have no access), this one will have to do.

The problem with google adds is they analyze wht your looking at and create the adverts on that theme, so looking at a FFXI site they use FFXI related adverts, and typically the adverts that pay the most to goole are RMT ones so they get displayed. I hear your using IE7 yeuk!! get Opera or Firefox, much safer browsing. less spam, less spyware, less viruses, need I say more?

AKosygin, can I ask a question...

Will this stop RMT from spamming our PM boxes? cause surly they may start using Gmail or other affiliates like bigfoot (a typical mail manager) because if they learn they cant spam the forums, then they will just keep to spamming peoples Pm boxes.

Could a pm ban or ban on seeing users pm button, msn, ICQ etc links until the user has posted say 25 times? As I have read people being spammed via MSN, yahoo messenger etc due to these being shown (granted its the choice of the user to have them showing, but that is usefull for genuine people to contact them)

Its a very difficult thing to try and overcome as they always seem to be one step ahead.
