Just recently Allakhazam, a prominent source of FFXI information as well as one of the known sites for a busy FFXI community has been acquired by the company that owns several properties… including IGE. If you did not know, IGE is a renowned organization that specializes in the selling of in game funds for real money. Being hated by most of anyone that plays an MMO that it has it hands on, it is no surprise that some of those that belong to the Allakhazam community refuse to continue associating with that gamming site. Although Allakhazam administrator talks of being separate from the other owned properties of their parent company, this holds no recourse for Allakhazam residents who want nothing at all to do with IGE.

This forum, FFXIOnline.com, is great, that's true. But Allakhazam is also a VERY good site in my opinion, apart from the forums. I know the shit with "Allakhazam is full of false info" and such.. but seriously, It still has a more good than bad info. And I really don't care if it's owned by IGE or something like that, aslong as I don't have to be a sort of "IGE-Member" or buy something from IGE to be able to use the site. If you take Allakhazam out of your bookmarks just because some company owns it that owns IGE too, then you're just stupid in my opinion. Whats FFXI, a freaking religion? (Yes it's our religion.. haha so funny. But you get the point.)

Well, I'm not 100% sure I'll be leaving Alla for good, but that I will be posting there a lot less since I found this place and the community, as a whole, appears to be better. I'll see where the next few weeks takes me, but as it is, Alla has the most complete information and is still likely to be my first stop for game-related information.

what Aksannyi said. most of us are not banishing alla from our usual checks, just making a new home for us here. Some of us had payed a subscription fee, you know to support the site, and cancelling the renewals. Some are taking their guides off. I'm pretty sure everyone will still post some, or at least go back and look for some info.

Just coming here and being available (checking posts, being ready to reply/help out) is hanging out with new people, so to speak ^^

Just gotta break out of the habit of posting stuff to the Hades forum there and bringing it here still somewhat shy...

I am one who will still haunt Alla for the info if nothing else. I will wait and see how the boards look once the hoopla has died down.

Im kinda grateful to the IGE/alla thing in a way, as this does seem like a more chilled + mature place and imo the people who will be posting on an RMT owned forum obviously have no issues with RMT, and I'd rather be seperate from them.

Anyways, I'm finding it hard to navigate round the diff boards here atm, but im sure after a couple more days it will be second nature^_^

It gives a good history of IGE, right up to the current events - them buying Allakhazam/preparing to start Zam.com.

Q: How are you paying for all this? Who really owns Allakhazam now?

A: Combining the sites into the new Zam.com Network means that we can allocate resources in a more useful way and create additional services. Because of contractual obligations, I am not able to say much more about our financial situation. The details will come out over time. Suffice it to say that I am still completely in charge of this network, including the newly added sites that form the Zam.com Network.

I had a premium account there for three years. During that time they made a huge deal about how they were anti-RMT, and always would be. But that has changed, and I've decided to take my business elsewhere. I can find the info I found there lots of other places on the internet, and I have this place (and LJ) for community.

I don't really think I'm being that unreasonable. If people want to stay there, far be it from me to tell them not to. But I'm not going to support them any longer.
