Don't be. Much of the modernization for Japan came during the 70s and 80s. While Tokyo was basically rebuilt from the ashes of WW2, the rest of the country never had the proper attention and thus the large tracts of community with 21st century veneer glued unto 19th century structures.

If there is any positive fallout from this disaster (sigh ... didn't mean to use the word in that manner) it would be that much of Northern Japan will be rebuilt anew and will be much more stronger. What the Japanese people need to keep an eye out for now is a future earthquake further south along the western fault (there are 4 plates which Japan itself stretches over) The central part of Japan (Kobe) and the northern areas have gotten the immense energies released but that leaves the southwestern areas in a situation where it could be equally, if not more, devastating. Anyone in Japan that thinks relocating south being a better option for the next 30 years are in for a nasty surprise...

I’ve been so out of the loop when it comes to new games. Nor do I want to start paying for another. FFXI will be my first and last mmo type game ><.

And this is why FFXI will likely survive this... but FFXIV will likely not.

I've heard so many FFXI players (who have been playing for a while) say that they don't want to start another MMO. Sure, there are some who wander back and forth to various MMOs, but if you've been playing FFXI for two or more years, you don't want to take that kind of time to get used to another one.

my feelings exactly. I started FFXI a year after release. I stopped about 3 years ago... and for the following 2 years, I played a handful of other MMOs and none of them felt right... or sat well with me. I got amped when I heard about XIV being in the works, I reserved it... I waited for it... I couldn't wait. I tried it... I liked it...I got bored... I hated it and what happened? I came back to FFXI.

Nothing will EVER replace this game. Unless they make FFXI HD.... I wont play another.
