FFXIV's design so far seems to veer to anticipating those needs, as well as trying many new things. SE could very well have new races up their sleeve or, unlike classes, they might be saving new races for expansions - something that is certainly not unheard of in the MMO world.

I agree in general with what you are say, but the bolded part here? Man I hope not.

I would hate to have to start a new character when an expansion hit if I decided I liked the new race more. In other games where you can not change jobs on the same character it wouldn't be so bad as new job=new character, but in FF the idea sucks. I do on occasion play a couple of my mules, but the very idea that I would have to take them through the missions again makes my head hurt. The times I play with the mules I'm beating up on the mobs outside the cities for fun, as my main can't do that anymore. And that's it.

This is a new game that I would hope would have NEW races.. To save it for the expansion would be straight retarded..

Again I'm seeing the same theme "the fact SE didn't give us male Miq'oute and female Roegyorin (sp?) means that they are nothing more than reskinned mithra and Galka which means SE is lazy" as your proof SE made a bad decision.

No, the fact that the new races look damn near identical to the old races tells you that they are lazy. The fact that the Not-Galka are still male-only and the Not-Mithra are still female only is the arrogant part about it; the slap-in-the-face that tells you, explicitly, "Not only are we going to just copy the races from the last game, we aren't even going to make an effort to throw you a bone and fill out the genders."

It's one thing to buy your non-gamer wife a GameStop gift card for Christmas... it's quite another to buy her an add-on expansion for a game that you play. The first is selfish and lazy... the second is just insulting.

This also speaks to the argument that SE copied the races because of "player demand"; for every 1 person that requested character similarity, I guarantee you that there were hundreds that requested the ability to play as a male Mithra. Yet, by an amazing coincidence, SE grants only the request that requires the least amount of work on their part.

Again you keep acting as if SE is trying to hide the fact that the races are similar, and yes they are similar, but that that's it, they look a good bit different from FFXI races, and their stories are also different, no matter how much of an argument you want to make from it, it still is a weak one. Yes SE chose to keep the gender locks on the new races as well, but guess what? Its their game, and their story to do as they wish. There are plenty of other games that have gender locks on races as well, why dont you go and complain about them as well.

Hey lets start complaining that all RPGs ever, reuse the human look and call it lazy.

Sorry Spider I don't view SE's decison as a personal attack, or as you put it a "slap in the face", to the FFXI player base. I think they honestly feel this would be accepted, and welcomed in some cases, so they made this decision. I'm sorry you feel so out-raged about it but I don't think SE was doing that since they including a lot of the things people requested in the game mechanics of FFXIV.

I agree it would be nice if they make a totally different new race, in fact I think in one interview, the dev wouldn't answer the question if there would be a new race straight. If they definitely planned on no new races I think he'd of straight said "no this is it". I think its very likely we will see another one added yet.

Even if we don't though I'll still try the game since I don't think SE was intentionally demoralizing the player base.

You do know that what we see now is unfinished right, and that they dont give us all the info right off -.- Your taking this way to personal to be honest......

Agreed. You're getting way to passionate over a game they keep giving half-assed answers to and isn't even finished. Just as Fairy said.. one dev wouldn't give a straight answer over new races. So chill..

As for new race there still has been no official explaination of this guy in one released concept art piece:

I thought that the controversy is if it was a Lalafell with a horned headpiece or something else and wasn't confirmed one way or another?

Anyway the quote is enough to make me wonder if they just might be hiding something up their sleeve.

I'm not sure if we'll really know for sure until the game is released.
