And yes, Zeid vs Kam'lanaut (or Eald'narche) would have been epic. I find it just a smidge odd they picked Jecht though, since he was really a good guy who unfortunately got mixed up in the cycle of Sin. Why not Yu'Yevon?
Well, if you look at the trend of heroes vs. enemies in Dissidia, you'll notice that they all have major connections to eachother (barring Squall and Ultimecia. That just doesn't make sense.). Yu Yevon also wouldn't have worked anyways. I mean, what would he do? Posess Aeons? How?

That said, Seymour would have worked if Yuna was FFX's hero. Which I would want really. A Summoner would be interesting to play as. On that note, it's a tad upsetting it's only going from FFI to FFX really. FFX-2 Yuna would have been fun to play as, and it would have given the villains side a much needed sword user.

Again, if nothing else, rotating the card wheel was a piss poor system. It would have been tolerable if it had, say, a WAIT system that would allow you to pause and select your moves, like FFXII.
It's called dodging, or arranging your deck better. Keep some cards stocked if you need to Card Break an unavoidable attack while you rotate. And enemies also had to rotate through the wheel, anyways.

How is Warrior of Light related to Garland, Firion tied to Emperor of Palamecia or Locke tied to Kefka in any way other than being antagonists?

Arranging your deck doesn't do shit when the controls for going through it are awful. And who cares if it applies to enemies? That doesn't make them easier, nor does it unbreak the system.

Every time I hit L, my deck shifts to the previous card. Every time I hit R, my deck shifts to the next card. If I hold L or R, the deck shifts through them at an accelerated speed. What control scheme would you suggest that doesn't involve pausing the game, defeating the purpose of it being an action game? And by arranging my deck and knowing where my cards are, I don't have to spend forever looking for what I need. The few moments I do need to find things, I make sure I'm not standing in the way of an enemy attack, and if I am, I dodge roll out of the way.

The system worked fine. It wasn't your cup of tea, ok. It wasn't a lot of people's cup of tea. But it worked fine (aaaand it removed silly MP restraints.)

Gots a little more KH stuff if you want to steal it and put it in a "proper" place Pai

KH: 358/2: Xion's weapon is a Keyblade, though Riku calls it a fake. She not only looks like Kairi, but sounds much like her too, likely to be related to her and Namine.

KH: BBS: The new Enemy is called Unbirths (No Heartless or Nobody since it takes place 9 years before KH1)

Because Yu'Yevon is barely even a character. It's just taken straight off the older back design of Spider-Man's outfit for chrissakes.

New impressions + updates + whatever!

The Prince can use an ability similar to "Zero Shift" from ZONE OF THE ENDERS or Dante's teleport ability from DEVIL MAY CRY. A quick jump and a teleport forward. The battle system is said to be very fast and hectic, but still maintain action RPG elements.

While we don't know what exactly the reality of the setting happens to be, the camera focused on a car that was speeding through a tunnel, and eventually showed the main character reclining in the back seat looking extremely bored as he was driven through the passageway. The next shot was a phrase that popped up, stating that "the real figure is still hidden in the sleep." Again, we weren't entirely sure who this real figure is, if it's the main character, who's the young king that's trying to defend his kingdom, or how they relate to the reality or fantasy of the game, but we were shown a sequence of the main character walking down stairs as a large group of armed soldiers opened fire upon him. This, and the deflection of the bullets with a crystalline shield, wasn't new, as we saw this at E3 two years ago. However, what was somewhat new was the addition of a mysterious woman that the main character appeared to come upon suddenly.

The amount of time that was provided to this sequence was quickly cut short, as the trailer went through a fast montage of various scenes, including the battle between the main character and how he destroyed the troops that fired on him, appearing to dislocate one soldier's arms with a sword and impaling others with another weapon. It also focused in on a group of men sitting in an elaborately decorated great hall, many of whom wore suits (akin to those of the Turks from Final Fantasy VII) and deferred their attention to one man that sat at the head of the table. With the scene taking the appearance of a boardroom meeting, it was quite apparent that the "chairman of the board" was rather displeased at events and it seemed like heads would roll.

One facet of the trailer that we weren't expecting was introduction of three new characters, who all interact with the young king much like a group of close friends or brothers would. We watched as the young king gets put in a headlock by a young blond man with a gun that looks like a cross between a sawed off shotgun and a grenade launcher. In turn, this guy is put into a headlock by a man with a scar across his left eye. The fourth man, who wears glasses, simply looked on and shook his head in disapproval. It's apparent that these men have some connection, and the trailer highlighted a few scenes that showed the four of them travelling in the king's car as well as walking away from an outcropping after noticing that a highway was washed out and they couldn't proceed along the road anymore.

Similarly, we weren't expecting that we would be shown someone that would stand up to the king, but we were shown two figures like that. The first was a hooded man who projected a large ring of swords around him as soon as the main character approached. The other was the mysterious woman mentioned previously, who fired up her magical abilities that flashed red as the young king's flashed blue. Both projected swords and appeared to clash with each other.

The trailer closed with a Shakespearean quote: "Nothing is either good or bad, but thinking makes it so." While no date was given, the trailer did emphatically state that it was only for the PS3. So don't worry Final Fantasy fans, there's still one FF title that isn't going Microsoft's way.

Might be more of the latter. Sephiroth is also seen in the realtime ingame engine for the first time. Golbez and Exdeath show up at the end and don't have any game or story scenes in the trailer. The demo on the show floor has Warrior of Light, Garland, Onion Knight, Tidus, Squall and Zidane as playable characters. When playing as Tidus, the Otherworld BGM is used. When you win a battle in Dissidia, you appear to gain equipment items, so although there is no equipment menu in the demo it's probably a part of the game.

The trailer seems to confirm that Snow White will also be in the game in addition to Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. I love these oldschool Disney worlds, fuck yeah. The trailer ends with Aqua facing off with Maleficent in Dragon form. The BGM in the trailer is Fate of the Unknown. The demo had two chapters modes, the Terra one is set in Enchanted Kingdom (Sleeping Beauty?) while the Ventus chapter is Castle of Dreams (Cinderella?). The new enemies in BbS are called Unbirths. The Terra boss is Wheel Master, and the Ventus boss is Lucifer. Controls like KH on PS2 except with a power bar you can build up for specials. Seems pretty awesome, etc etc. I can't wait. 2009.

The design is said to be very much like FFXII but enhanced, which probably means it's wide open spaces and the camera is more of a third person camera rather than the fixed position overhead camera from FFX. There are NO battles in the footage, so this does not mean anything as far as encounters and battles go, just field stuff. The game also uses the 3D world a lot more naturally, like Lightning and her companions being able to jump twice their height, and there also appear to be a rolling move.

The aircraft glided over a pack of running animals and gigantic beasts walking through a river. As the ship gained elevation and soared towards a cliff, the camera zoomed in quickly to focus in on a character standing on a cliff. No, it wasn't Lightning, the main character of the title, but the girl with pigtails and reddish brown hair. The trailer moved away from her and refocused on the aircraft, which had been joined in formation by a number of ships to fly through a number of circular halos -– halos that allowed them to dock within a massive floating battleship that cruised through the skies.

The trailer then quickly changed to a quick sequence of what appeared to be summoned creatures, many of which we've seen in previous trailers. It appeared to focus primarily upon a character playing a harp (which could be the Siren summon), a fiery demonic character (which would have to be Ifrit) and the small, cutesy-looking sprite that appeared out of a disc that the girl with pigtails held (could that possibly be Carbuncle or another summon?). With their appearance, the trailer turned from a peaceful scene to a more combative tone, highlighting a gigantic battle with ships going to war, firing weapons and deploying transports loaded with troops. While Lightning finally made her appearance within the trailer, the footage, including her battle sequences, were repurposed footage that's been shown before. However, there were a few new elements as well, such as one scene that highlighted that one of the warring sides had captured something in a floating container and were transporting it to a ship in what appeared to be some kind of ceremony.

While the game moved away from the scene before any details were shown as to what was inside the container or who the people were, we did see new in-game engine elements that looked phenomenal. While the end of the trailer highlighted that it will come out in 2009 for the PS3 (with no mention of the 360 version), we were also informed by a later segment of the trailer montage that a demo of the game will be coming out with the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete Blu-Ray, which will be released in March of 2009.

The new trailer has more realtime footage and it looks much better than from last year apparently. The game is still the same as before, it's a school setting with themes of war and fantasy at the same time. Odin is shown in the trailer, and the game also seems to be going for a more action RPG system now instead of previously planned command based system. There've been speculation that this could very well be what S-E will use as their Monster Hunter Portable killer under the FFXIII branding now.

In the off-screen meeting video, Nomura said that it was a lot less school-oriented than people expected. The intro movie for it was awesome; it looked like a battle room strategy for a huge invasion of the crystals - suzaku, byakko, genbu (didn't see seiryu mentioned, but it would be the obvious fourth one). The game showed a lot of FFXI overtones, so if, as duckroll says, they are going for that massive multiplayer crowd, I guess it might be a sped up co-op RPG along the lines of FFXI, maybe slightly more action-oriented, but the trailer showed obvious division of classes. This is the FNC game I am most excited about right now.

It presented a flyover of a map that showed off different kingdoms, and highlighted one militaristic nation that due to the machinations and speeches of its leader, began invasions of its neighbors. Apparently, its march to war was unimpeded until it reached a lone island kingdom isolated from the rest of the continent, which appeared to be protected by a giant crystal. However, it does appear as though the crystal eventually shatters, leaving the kingdom unprotected and seemingly defenseless. That is, until a mysterious woman clad in a cloak emerged in front of the army, wielding both a whip like sword (reminiscent of SoulCalibur's Ivy) and other blades.

While the trailer focused on quick flashes of gameplay interspersed with CG cutscenes, the trailer eventually ended with the cloaked woman planting a flag, which appeared to be the colors of the invaded island nation. This rallied many other cloaked figures to arise and take up arms against their attackers. Whoever this resistance group is, they all look rather dangerous, with their own specialization of different weapons. The trailer then ends. While we were left with many more questions than answers, this definitely put the title on our radar whenever it is released on PSPs.
The next issue of Dengeki PS3 will feature coverage of this event. It releases in Japan on August 19th, so don't expect to see any screens of FFXIII or FFversusXIII until then.

Nomura says this event was "merely a taste" of what's to come at TGS. You have time to prepare though, since the show is in October this year.

I think the FFXIII release schedule goes like this:

                1. FFXIII PS3 (Japan)
                2. FFXIII PS3 and 360 (North America and Europe)
                3. FFXIII PC (Regions TBD, probably staggered)

Although, Pai Pai Master, you said the PC version was canceled a few posts back. Could you clear that statement up? (Was it ever actually confirmed in the first place?)

                  Re: SQUARE-ENIX DKΣ3713 Private Party 2008

I dunno. Back at E3 they said that since they were building the game for PC first, they were considering releasing it as a full product for PC and that it would probably be out shortly after the PS3 Japanese version. IGN later confirmed. This was then denied yesterday. Maybe they became skeptical after seeing DMC4's PC performance?

And I think you're correct, though the 360 version will only begin development once the Japanese PS3 version is shipped and localization begins. There's a chance that the port may be finished by the time the NA/EU PS3 version is localized, but if you ask me I think it'll be a few months off, especially since SE wants to help its worldwide branches expedite their localization processes. It's normally about 8-10 months for each game to reach US soil, so since they want to make it quicker I'd expect 3-5 months localization this time around. I'll ask around with people who were actually at the event to see if there's any further clarification on the release process.

Creatures wearing pants are nothing new. Sometimes, they are the ones without the pants you need to watch out for.

Who seriously wears a puffy shirt, though?

                              From a Gamespot article:

In the video, director Motomu Toriyama didn't beat around the bush when Nomura asked him questions about the 360 FFXIII. Starting off, he reconfirmed that, "We haven't changed the direction of the development. We're making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later." That means that since the game will be released simultaneously on both platforms in North America and Europe, the PS3 release will be held back in those territories until the 360 version is complete.

The designer also reassured PS3 owners that the game's quality would not suffer due to the 360 port. "We aren't going to change any specifications [of FFXIII] because of the multi-platform announcement," he declared. "Right now, we're fully concentrating on the PS3 version."
Not cool. They should just release it when it's ready. Looks like anyone outside of Japan will be waiting till 2010 to play.
