Re: Dragon Quest VIII Release Date Announced + Major Bonus!
I remember the FF 8 demo too, it was just enough to suck you into the new age graphics.
FF 7 was the first one I played, and after that I was hooked, I was pleased to see that the previous releases were even more involved then 7, but I still like 7 alot.
There was a very powerful change in the FF series after the new age systems came along, it seems that Square invested in new age graphics and original gameplay rather then the in depth feel and connection that the old FF games expounded on.
I think that they need to develop a FF that recalls the shared spotlight that FF 6 had, I think that is my favorite, the lack of main character and the fully developed story and mystery behind every character made them all facinating. It doesn't take cheesy attempts at modern graphical facial expressions to display emotion, it takes strong sympathetic storyline and events.
I think they tried to recreate some of the old with FF 9, but they didn't give it the time it needed to shine because of the impending release of 10, and pretty much killed thier own title, not to say that ff 9 was the best, but it had some flavor. I think every FF in the series is a well made game, but some of them far outshine the others, and it makes some of them less impressive. Had they been played being oblivious to any of the other titles, I think they would all be appreciated much more, but compared to previous titles, they seem to lose more of the involvement and interest to bling and new age concepts.
I hope one day SE gets the idea to totaly recreated the first 6 in the series, not just rerelease them with insignificant alterations, but totaly next millenium each of them with completely new graphics and additional features, as well as increased exploration and continuation content. The old FFs can't be replaced by new FFs, and they can't very well just make a sequel to each of them (that would simply be tacky), I think they are impressive enough (and retro enough) to be totaly redone in a new light, with simular gameplay and totaly improved and attractive visuals, or make a totaly new version of the same game with the same storyline and characters, kind of like the 400 remakes of zelda. If they released a totaly overhauled version of the game it would be good if each included a copy of the original version, so players can experience the original, and the new version, if they happen to be totaly different in gameplay.
