  • Square Enix Party 2005!

Square Enix had a limited appearance at E3 2005. While their biggest news came from the choice to bring FINAL FANTASY XI to the Microsoft XBOX 360 console and their pledge of bringing the FINAL FANTASY series to the Sony PLAYSTATION 3, there was very little coverage of their upcoming major titles. Both KINGDOM HEARTS 2 and FINAL FANTASY XII were shown only in video format; their only major upcoming title found to be playable was the critically acclaimed DRAGON QUEST VIII - Journey of the Cursed King.

However, shortly after E3 Square Enix announced that it would make up for it with its upcoming SQUARE ENIX PARTY 2005 event. The event, while not as massive as the 1999 SQUARE MILLENIUM Conference which debuted FINAL FANTASY IX, FINAL FANTASY X and FINAL FANTASY XI in the same day, will have some eagerly-awaited appearances. First and foremost, SQUARE ENIX is bringing over 200 playing booths for their upcoming title FINAL FANTASY XII, and will have nearly as many for KINGDOM HEARTS 2. Also on the list will be Grandia III, Heavy Metal Thunder, Code Age Commanders, Fullmetal Alchemist 3, Slime Mori Mori Dragon Quest 2 and Dirge of Cerberus - FINAL FANTASY VII. FINAL FANTASY VII: Advent Children will be displayed as well, possibly in its entirety. Other titles include Before Crisis: FINAL FANTASY VII, FINAL FANTASY XI (possibly in Xbox 360 format), and the debut of SQUARE ENIX's mysterious new title, World of Mana.

Unfortunately, no word has surfaced about other eagerly awaited SQUARE ENIX titles being shown at the event, such as DRAG-ON DRAGOON 2: Love Red, Ambivalence Black for PLAYSTATION 2, FANTASY EARTH: The Ring of Dominion for Windows or even Crisis Core: FINAL FANTASY VII for PSP.

I'm going to be following this event religiously when it is held on July 30th and 31st, so be sure to check back for updates. It is very possible we'll hear some cool news on FINAL FANTASY XI for XBOX 360 and the third expansion pack.

          Re: Square Enix Party 2005!

I'm guessing "World of Mana" is the 3rd one in the Secret of Mana game line (was a great game back in the day)
You mentioned FFVII like 3 or 4 times, one of those is the movie, but what were the others, has anyone heard anything about these or is it the first time they've been mentioned (ps2 or 3 redo of the original FFVII?)
Sounds cool though, looking forward to here more news.

                    Re: Square Enix Party 2005!

Square Enix Party is under way!

On day 1 Square Enix made some major announcements regarding FINAL FANTASY XII, KINGDOM HEARTS II and Dirge of Cerberus: FINAL FANTASY VII.

The big news of course, is on the release date of FINAL FANTASY XII. All FFXII stories are covered in my Official FFXII Thread.

A few things were revealed about KINGDOM HEARTS II, involving the theme song. Check out my Official KH2 Thread!

Besides their two major upcoming titles, Square Enix also shared some suprising information about two other installments of the COMPILATION OF FINAL FANTASY VII Project. The first shocker, it was announced that FINAL FANTASY VII: Advent Children is officially scheduled to hit Japanese theatres on September 10th, with the premiere in Tokyo on the 8th. Those of you living in Japan, this could be your only chance to see Advent Children in theatres!

The next piece of news involved Dirge of Cerberus, the upcoming FINAL FANTASY VII sequel starring Vincent Valentine. It was revealed that Dirge of Cerberus would include a multiplayer mode, carried out through PLAYONLINE. In the multiplayer mode, players are able to create their own character, a solider of the Deep Ground group, and take on missions together or battle eachother. It looks similar to Phantasy Star Online in setup.

That's it for the first day of news at Square Enix Party 2005. I'll have more tonight when the 2nd night is done with.

                      Re: Square Enix Party 2005!

Okay, so there wasn't really much along the lines of news on the second day, just music, demos and more trailers.

Someone on the forums had asked about FFXI information from Square Enix 2005.

While there wasn't much beyond the lone Xbox360 console being played by SE Representatives at the show in its own little green and white corner, there were a number of interviews with FFXI Producer Hiromichi Tanaka.

Here are the links to 1Up and Gamespot's interviews with Tanaka-san. I personally prefer 1Up's interview, since whoever was doing the interview seemed to actually know what he was talking about.

I am actually glad that they are taking in consideration melee class. But the thing is when will they make changes?I can't wait to see blm nerf. Not everyone wants to be a blm in the endgame.

FFXI to Xbox 360? That means microsoft would have to make a KB for the 360..
