This argument has absolutely no credibility whatsoever. The PS2 hardware is going to give out and no longer be available eventually, at which point anyone left on the PS2 is going to have to get a new system or quit anyway.

Yes... emphasis on *eventually*. People are asking why SE doesn't drop PS2 *now*. This is why. People are still using PS2 now. Sometime years in the future when lots of people aren't using PS2 anymore, SE might drop PS2. But now is not that time, even if you personally are already not using PS2 anymore.

This is really not that hard a concept.

Maybe my understanding of English isn't what it used to be so would you mind highlighting the difference between prevention and restriction in this context please?

Simple. There's lots of new content. Therefore it's possible to add new content.

I don't think you quite grasp the scope of what overhauling the entire game engine entails. Even if we're five years out from PS2 drop off, we should be clamoring for the engine upgrade now so that it will be ready in time.

This is really not a hard concept.

If you currently play on the PS2 and you have a PS3 that is backwords compatable, you can. Simply install the games onto your PS3 as if you were doing it on the PS2.

There have been reports of this not working because of an incompatability with the POL viewer on the PS3. You can use the POL viewer on the PS3 as long as you are using a direct ethernet cable. It will not work properly if you are using wireless.

If your PS3 has a smaller HD and you do not have the space necessery to fully install the game... you can always use a store purchaced LAPTOP HD and switch that with the HD inside your system. I spent 75 bucks on Tigerdirect.com... and my PS3 is now 500gigs.

I currently have FFXI installed on my desktop PC, my laptop and my PS3. I also have the original PS2+FFXI HD combo in my closet in case I ever want to dig out out again.

You can absolutely play FFXI on your PS3. In fact... I'm doing it right now. BAMF!

I play it on a laptop I got for $400 at max settings. Tho I need to tweak the registry further. Just have to remember how.

And argh, finding out how to tweak the registry of the Steam version of this game is infuriating. I found a method, followed the instructions, and nada. OH WELL.

Speaking of the steam version of the game, I sort of remember hearing it wasn't compatible with the windower and that editing the registry was a freaking pain. <_<;


Also, while there's still some barely noticeable stuttering it seems AMD did something with the 11.xx drivers since the game is playable again. Well, either that or my current rig is able to compensate for the crappy drivers.

Yeah, it isn't compatible with the windower as far as I can tell, and I'm not even going to bother with the registry.

I was reading a bit and it seems that the registry for the config is in the same place for the steam version, but you have to make sure you run the FFXI config, change what you want there, then save it, for the registry to show up.

as far as windower, from what I read, again just get the latest version and is should work fine.

again this is just from what I was reading, I made sure they where talking about the steam version, and it seemed so. *shrugs*

Yeah, I tried that method (thanks, google!) and it didn't work for whatever reason. The registry wasn't where it was supposed to be, even after running the config a few times, saving my changes, rebooting, etc. So I'm doing something wrong.

Are you running 64 bit or 32 bit? Because in Windows 7 64 the PlayonlineUS folder is located in the WOW6432node subfolder, for instance.

What language are you speaking? If you think they can't add new content because of the PS2, then how have they repeatedly added new content while keeping the PS2?
