And seriously the folks on the official forums. Some make perfect sense, and the rest are all "arglebarglebargle!"

The game will never really "die" in the sense of the word, but I wouldn't say Everquest is kicking even though its alive. Obviously there are enough people to play FFXI and EQ to keep the games up and running, but it doesn't mean upgrading the graphics for a vocal minority of batshit insane PC players who need to have superior visuals in an eight year old game is a good idea.

What it amounts to is "I want an upgrade so I can chest thump." Its not because they genuinely care about the state of a game, but because they want to have something pretty to look at. Upping the graphics might grab a thousand subscribers, but once they see the steep cliff they'd have to climb with main jobs and subjobs, they'd leave as soon as they came.

The cities are dead, no one parties in the low and intermediate levels because the cultural consensus has always been "If you can solo, then we expect you to solo and by golly, you're gong to solo whether you like it or not because my time shouting and not getting any help in Whitegate is precious."

The cities are dead, no one parties in the low and intermediate levels because the cultural consensus has always been "If you can solo, then we expect you to solo and by golly, you're gong to solo whether you like it or not because my time shouting and not getting any help in Whitegate is precious."

1. Yes, the cities are dead. You'll see the occasional player who runs to the OP warp NPC... or getting some quest done for some piece of AF gear... but basically they're all empty. The merging of the AH's that they announced... where all of them will be conjoined... is long overdue... especially for new players who don't have access to jeuno yet... and essentially have to buy all their stuff off NPCs... which leaves them naked... because new players dont have money. Nuff said.

2. As for the low/intermediate areas such as V. Dunes, Q. Island and even Y. Jungle... they aren't empty. I'll admit that it's a bit harder to find a (good) party for any of those zones, but it's still possible. The key is not to just sit there with your flag up and a bowl of cheetos on your lap expecting a party to just ask for your help. If you want to party in the dunes, start that party yourself... do the footwork... invite people... ask around... shout for a pick up group... USE THE AUTO-TRANSLATE FUNCTION!!! If you don't bother with A-T, you're cutting out morethan half of your prospective party members. I can get a party for dunes or quifim in less than a half hour of asking people. It's really not that hard. For example...

/shout <Experience Points> <Party> <Valkurm Dunes> <Level Sync> 12 <Do You Need It?>

This is the easiest way to find people to ask. Since the entry to Abyssea is 30... anyone under 29 is going to want to party... anything will usually be good enough for them. Make sure you have a TANK, a HEALER and some DD and you're golden. To top it off, these days 1/5 people has some way to PL... weather it's a friend or a second account.

3. "If you can solo, then we expect you to solo"... is also sadly true. Most new players who are joining without some kind of support system from RL friends or people like myself who openly welcome and help new players... are basically SOL and forced to level their jobs alone until they get past level 10 and start to learn to build their own parties.

4. Whitegate? LoL... who's in WG these days? I'll tell you who's in WG... nothing but 100 or so JP players shouting in JP CONSTANTLY. <English> <Can I Have It?>

You're right. Which is why I'm proud of my LS members who are banding together to level the right way. Lovelyss is taking up DRG properly. He's been building his own parties and going to Y. Jungle, G. Citadel, W. Woodlands and eventually into Abyssea after he reaches level 75. He's been working hard for weeks now and recently broke the 60 cap. Meanwhile He's been doing his AF quest and Bastok missions. I encourage all my members to follow his lead.

It's a shame that there are so many people who are getting to 30 only ro Abyssea burn their way up. It's not as fulfilling or awe-inspiring when you reach level 75 as it used to be.

Ahh... that seems to happen a lot. I'm not though, lol.

I'm not sure if it's just my server or what... but I can count on 2 hands and half of a foot... the people who form parties... weather it's abyssea, limbus, salbvage, dynamis...etc. Everyone else either parties with their own LS or with close friends. The desperation of some of the people I invite who's flags are up is amazing this late in the game. Some people tell me things like:

"Man, thanks for the invite, I've had my flag up for like... 3 hours!"

Why man? why just sit in front of the computer doing nothing but wait for someone else to invite you? I mean yea it worked... but at what cost to your free time?

I'm not trying to teach anyone... it's just a habit I've grown into while I'm educating all the new players in my LS as their arrive. I mean no harm. I'm just trying to breed the next generation of people who will BUILD parties rather than POPULATE them.

Waiting three hours for a party brings back a lot of memories, more than I'd like. Most people wouldn't join one that wasn't put together by a tank or healer, and most idiots would be a tank or healer just to throw parties together and horribly fail. I don't miss that at all.

I'm going to be honest. If I have an opportunity to zoom through the levels on jobs I've already leveled to 75 (I'm looking at you, RDM, BRD, WHM, PLD, DRG, and DNC) then, you know, YEAH, I'll go for it. I can always go skillup/accquire gear. Being a higher level makes that whole skilling and gear finding shit easier. But otherwise, I'm good.

And I like soloing.

As a side note, I don't know that I've ever "chest thumped" anyone, and I sincerely doubt that a graphical upgrade would cause me to break this record.

And yet, people will still turn you down for a party where they might have to do something waiting for that one Abyssea party that will let them leech all the way up. There might be a bunch going on in Abyssea, but there aren't that damn many parties going on there that every idiot that wants to leech is going to get one.

Hell, I've asked a few shouters from time to time who are putting an Abyssea party together if they would want my 69 BLM and they shoot me down with 'no leeches,' and I was actually planning on doing shit.
