Official FINAL FANTASY XI Forums Launch! (03/08/2011)
I did not mean it like that, but yeah after reading it, I worded it really bad -.-
I meant more of how RDM and PLD change gear alot, and that the extra lines helps a lot in allowing jobs that change gear often in battle, to do it with one macro, instead of 2-4.
or if you change 6 gear slots for one spell you can cast eh spell and change all the gear to and back, with just one macro.
That's more of what I meant ;p

Reading through the JP forums and then the EN forums provided some interesting contrast. (This is the FFXIV section) In short, JP players seem to discuss more along the lines of merits with particular additions to the game in order to enhance or create interest, either through excitement in the content or just the novelty factor, in order to increase the playerbase.
Case in point, discussion on PK (Player Kill) or the JP equivalent of PvP. The discussion is civil and takes a more analytical approach. JP players favor PvE and not PvP and by and large many have said that introducing PvP would turn them off to the game.
In the EN section, players are just whining like no tomorrow, which reminds me a whole lot of the WoW Official Forums. In one of the forums people start off with the lack of pets in the game and then go from sublime to ridiculous in suggestions. And then whining about how they would quit if SE didn't listen to their demands. Oy vey.

Yeah, old game is old, but if people want to continue to pay for it and play it and they still want regular new content, why should SE keep trying to cling to the PS2 if it will be unable to support such an endeavor?
Because there's a lot of players still using the PS2. SE has said this several times. Those players would be forced to buy new systems or quit the game, and clearly SE expects a substantial number would quit, more than could possibly be brought in/back by new shiny graphics. They're probably right, too.
Anyway, PS2 limitations haven't prevented SE from introducing new content; they just somewhat restrict what *kind* of new content. Big deal.

This argument has absolutely no credibility whatsoever. The PS2 hardware is going to give out and no longer be available eventually, at which point anyone left on the PS2 is going to have to get a new system or quit anyway.

Maybe my understanding of English isn't what it used to be so would you mind highlighting the difference between prevention and restriction in this context please?

FFXI is a game in its twilight.
PS2 is a console in its twilight.
People still use PS2s to play FFXI, so dropping PS2 is forcing them to upgrade. Strong-arming your userbase into upgrades is frowned on and a great way to damage consumer loyalty no matter how old the hardware is. That's why Blizzard doesn't do that to their customers.
FFXI, as an MMO, is not worth the effort to visually upgrade anymore. Its old, let it go out gracefully instead of dressing up the vegetable so it looks nice while its on the respirator.
If SE wants to resurrect FFXI, I'd rather them put the money on an single player incarnation because we need a change of scenery on the single-player side of the franchise. That would bring in a whole new audience and, if successful, there may be merit in making a next-generation FFXI at that point.
Right now, there is no reason to discontinue PS2 support, nor is there a reason to upgrade FFXI or add any further proper expansions.
They just blew the restrictions off Dynamis, dumbed down every mission in the game by removing level caps and a list of other things we thought they'd never do.
The game is done. Let those that remain enjoy it on what platforms are available.
Re: Official FINAL FANTASY XI Forums Launch! (03/08/2011)
If you still play on the PS2 get a fucking job.
I know this will blow your mind, but some people don't own a PS3 yet because they don't see it as worth owning. PS3 is no PS2 and it never will be. I know plenty of people that still use PS2s, not just for FFXI, but their main gaming fix.
Additionally, some people don't like playing FFXI on a PC because its taking up additional resources to play it. Resources they could be using for other things. This is why some people prefer playing on PS2 and 360. Some people prefer PC, others don't. Individual preference - imagine that.
