My point is, swap what gear? I could barely afford what I had, and I sure as hell wasn't going to spend another nine years farming or camping NMs for a second set of equipment for WSs.

Most of my stuff was rare/ex anyway. The buyable shit also swapped in and out with the nonbuyable stuff but the vast majority of my crap was rare/ex.

Brown nosing SE, I guess. I see that accusation a lot on the WoW forums too. Apparently people get really butthurt if you kiss developer ass. It's not like by me saying, "Oh, Mr. Square Enix, you're so wonderful and I love your product" they're going to design an in-game item based on me or lower my fees.

People are just dumb.

I call it "Star Syndrome." It doesn't matter if its an official forum or fan podcast or even if you start a fansite - if someone thinks kissing up will earn them a place in the spotlight, they will do it. And often, they do it on assumption that their appreciation will be reciprocated .

LBR and PFA are no strangers to star syndromt. We had people start the game, come to our server, join our linkshell, submit an application to be a guest host and they acted like everyone was just supposed to genuflect before them because they were there and applied.

And when that didn't happen, when they didn't get on the show or appreciated by fellow forumgoers like they though they should, they got hostile toward the people that they hoped would give them that status they were seeking.

You can imagine what a fun time that is.

So yeah, I hope the SE forum admins have plenty of Advil on hand because they're going to see what this is like, if only for a couple of months.

It's not necesserily "stuff" that people are after. There are examples of people like... say Selphie or Pekko... who's contributions to their respective websites earned them invitations to things like E3 and other such events. Sure... I'd like to get cool handouts... and gift baskets full of products from conventions like that... but I'm not about to bust my hump to make an entire website to do it.

Also... it's important to note that I don't think either of the afformentioned people made their respective sites with the sole purpose of getting hand-outs. All I'm saying is that some people have seen what selphie and pekko have gotten... and they wants them some... and if they dont have the resources to make a website... the do what they can think of... which is apply their poop resistant lip gloss and pucker up.

Well it's more the Community Team which reads the NA forums anyways. They just pass on whatever they feel isn't fucking retarded to the Devs.

Then the devs must be bored out of their fucking minds.

Yes/no, nonspecific Strength rings were hella expensive/cheap.

Anyways, if I had sold all my gear on the AH I wouldn't be poor by any stretch of the imagination. At any given time it was invested across multiple jobs. I suppose I could gear swap some Drg gear into some Pld or Smn gear, but that's about it.

when I first started gearswapping on my DRG, many...many moons ago (god my Mithra is old) I was pretty poor myself, but I still remember getting those two STR rings, and swapping them in place of my DEX rings (yes it was that long ago) to get that little extra boost in my WSs. From then on I would just buy one item or so when I could aford it, and replace old with new. Now as 75 DRG (yeah I know I need to get in with the new stuff ;p) I swap from Haste gear to STR/ATT gear when I WS, with the ACC gear I still have equipped it is enough for me to still eat meat, and put out much better WS numbers then I used to.

Well, BG went through that phase - about five years too long - but I can't say I blame them. These days BG has things a bit more clamped down, so I'd imagine some there are secretly hoping the unsavory members migrate to the official FFXI forums so they don't have to /facepalm so much.
