An Important Announcement for FINAL FANTASY XIV Fans
Re: An Important Announcement for FINAL FANTASY XIV Fans
I honestly dont think it can be salvaged. The first impression of a game is what hits home the most, and because of the dismal review FFXIV got upon initial release it more than likely will keep a lot of gamers away that weren't brought on by friends who currently play. Here's to hoping I'm wrong though

No matter how far an ass travels he will never be a horse. Some people are just bad players and no amount of tools you give them will change that.

Do they? They released the game in an much worse condition than their PS2 release... 8 years later.
And things are much different nowadays with good options that are both out there and about to be. So people are much more likely to start playing other MMOGs and never look back.
But hopefully diehard SE- fans alone will be sufficient to keep the game alive in the mean time, 'cause... <Usual 2012 join date comment here.>

Fortunately for us the Fans of Final fantasy, square has enough bank and enix enough salve driving whips (O.o) to keep the game from vanishing, unfortunately that also means that we will have to go through the recovery period where it will be impossible to generate the numbers we want to see in game.
Fighting without knowledge of the battle is like wacking at a tree with a rusty sword badly in need of repair.
P.S. ..if a male mithra is ever made available for this game I don't care what level I am I would start over in a heartbeat. Just something about playing a female as a male that bothers me.. Not for the dex.. but because I like cats

I'm still curious to see what the server populations look like post-Cataclysm. For those who are playing the game now - how crowded (or not) are the servers now, compared to how they were a week ago?

Honestly the server population looks about the same, I don't see any difference.
WoW's release was a nightmare as well, it took Blizzard a full year before it was something more than a paid beta and for them to get servers that actually worked.

Its just a big learning curve, I admit I havn't touched FFXIV for a while but thats more due to working my ass off and being too knackered to have a good session than wanting to play by choice. The good thing about this is that they are listening to the fan base and have held their hands up saying theirs problems and they are working hard to fix them. I know many games where they don't are about the players and if somethings not working well, well thats it put up or shut up. FFXIV will evolve over the coming months / years and if they can make it last as long as FFXI then they will do well.
In the mean time over xmas when i may be able to spend some time on it I will make a new character and just experiement with different races and starting cities.
I wish this argument would stop getting thrown around. Shit's situational and the situation was very different back when FFXI was making its way into the largely undeveloped market of MMORPGs.
Hexx hit the nail on the head. First impressions count for a lot and FFXIV made an impressively poor one. Why should gamers go with FFXIV after that when there are so many better options out there?

I had a long phone conversation this weekend with a friend who played XI for years, and who upgraded his PC to play XIV at launch. I think "disappointed" doesn't even begin to describe his feelings about XIV. We talked about how both of us had hoped to find XIV to be a natural extension of XI, but more casual in approach, but with all the wonder and fun and Square-Enix-ness of a Final Fantasy game to keep us going for a long time.
Which admittedly is our own fault for having expectations. I don't even know that I'll ever play XIV now, which is kind of sad. If they make some serious changes, maybe in a year or something like that, but as things stand? Unlikely.
Then again, a lot of the time, I think maybe my time with MMOs has passed. He feels similarly, so perhaps XIV isn't for us.

Wow. I played for a couple of weeks then got sick of the game and i gave up. I heard they gave ppl a free second month and tried to give it another go, but couldn't find the urge.
This news + The shit i saw in the December Update = Holy crap, i might actually play this now.
If we don't like something, collectively, if our hatred for it throbs like an abscess beneath every thread, does that mean that they're doing something right?

As hard as it may be, don't take this game or your characters too seriously. I promise you - the guys that really own your account don't.
