A Special Gift for Abyssea Trilogy Purchasers! (04/28/2011)
Re: A Special Gift for Abyssea Trilogy Purchasers! (04/28/2011)
And it's actually easier than moding characters since there's no animations or moving parts. But the walking area, is the walking area.
Although it seems odd since I doubt SE tracks that inside the MH, but I've never paid attention to where I log in and out inside so might be worth a try. o_O

Lost knowledge from a deleted thread by a once respected user I won't name :
Even more goofing around with .dat files. Although I highly do not recommend changing zone files because it can lead to serious complications. I limited it to the moghouse where noone else can see me. If you change an outside area where other people are, then they may see you in some strange places. With the recent spotlight on hacking tools and third party program situation, you really don't want to be doing this out in the open. This trick also doesn't work with every zone for various reasons which I won't detail.
I found out when you change the area files for moghouse, you can still access your inventory, but you can't get out of the darn room! After a couple file changes, it starts messing with your position and leads to strange results. Once after leaving the moghouse, I ended up far far away from any walkable ground. Without using Warp, I would have had some serious explaining to a GM why I was stuck outside normal zone boundaries. Note, I didn't use any outside programs, just .dat file switching like armor and Moogle.
With that aside, I think the open space in my new moghouse is quite roomy.
I tried both rental and home Moghouses, yes if you have your own furniture they appear, where they normally would be if there was a wall. As long as the starting point is on normal ground, then you can wander anywhere in the zone. In the Sandoria moghouse, I could go anywhere right up to the zone lines. When I went into the Residential Area zone, I ended up back at the Mog, any other zone (N Sand/Ronfuare) would give an error and I'd just pop back near the Mog.
Before anyone starts thinking they can go visit Alteau or any zone aggro free, you'll most likely just end up stuck in mid air or below ground with no way to move anywhere. Only a handful of zones work with the moghouse, most places I just end up stuck. Doors, switches, or anything that is targetable in a zone will not work in a moghouse swap. No fishing, no AH access, no door opening, or such.
Remember, you can't exit a changed moghouse, only logout. There is a high risk of being trapped inside even if you restore the original file. Sometimes I ended up under the floor of the original moghouse, and leaving the moghouse with bad positioning sent me to the wrong place outside. Reinstalling the game might not correct this.
I tried turning the moghouse into the GM jail (I know which .dat), but it wont work because the coordinates are different. In this case, the world (each zone) is square... well a cube actually. The center coordinate of the cube is 0,0,0 which matches the floor inside the moghouse. In other zones 0,0,0 might be under the ground or up in the air.
The GM jail is actually multiple rooms in a single cube, just at different corners. They are too far apart to target anyone else or hear /shouts.
If you do decide to go change some Moghouses around, you do so at your own risk! I won't be held responsible if you change non-Moghouse areas and mess around then get stuck somewhere or punished by a GM.
You will be able to target and bring up the menu to leave the moghouse, but the game will freeze. All you can do in a changed room is move around, access your storage, and /logout or /shutdown. If you want to reset your moghouse back to default, logout near the Moogle and not some far off position.

As long as you back up the files then it should be fine. If you have the Steam version it's even easier since you can just nuke the .DAT or even the entire folder and just download them again.

Hooray for pre-Abyssea drama RDMs. Did he also wear full AF1 full-time?
Yes, he also full timed a Joyeuse even when on healing duty when me and the other WHM had to switch to BLM+BLM or SMN+BLM in a mission BC for extra damage or they really needed my COR or her BRD so we'd ask that RDM to off-heal with predictable results.
I'd name him to see if anyone wants to avoid him but I think naming and shaming is against the board's ToS. If I'm going to risk being banned, I want it to be for something worth the risk (That's why I never understood why burglars rarely go crazy, I mean if you're going to jail you might as well be caught stealing something worth it. I've had thrift store clothes hung out to dry stolen from the clothes line, but not the several hundred £ bicycle or very expensive cycle repair tools I was stupid enough to also leave out stolen before ).
