Oh, I've got it! They could hook together all the car batteries in the parking garage!

I don't actually expect the servers to stay up given the wording in that announcement alongside Japan's current predicament. Not unless they manage to get something set up to run the game from a location that isn't having power problems.
Knowing SE, the client is probably hard coded to connect to one specific server that they used while they were beta testing, and that code is so deeply embedded in other systems somehow that they'd have to start over from scratch to change it.

That would not surprise me at all honestly.

Mhurron had posted in a another thread that it would cost them more than twice as much to have a redundant set of servers. I don't know if that's true but I'm inclined to believe Mhurron.

central/downtown tokyo was never subject to the blackouts because they deemed it too critical for businesses. I believe SE didn't have to shut down the servers but chose to do so to be socially responsible

          Thanks Yyg!

Yup, not financially feasible but totally an option. I'm just tired of hearing "there's nothing they can do ", because my retort will always be "they're a multi-million dollar corporation, they can suck it up and be responsible".

Social responsibility and business responsibility are two different things, and barring pants-on-head-retarded hard-coding, I still maintain that they could fulfill both sets responsibilities.

So, three more days of forum QQs. Oh goody.

It's good to see they're bringing stuff back up. Now I'm interested to see the QQ threads about how people's plants died and WHY OH WHY SE COULD YOU NOT SAVE MY GRAIN SEEDS.

But they are being socially responsible, and by not billing any of their customers for April (FFXIV players are like "Oh, wait, they still charge you guys?"), they are helping to ease the discomfort to their customers. People who may have cancelled will instead keep playing, because: free month, and then likely forget that they were all ARGLEBARGLE about all the downtime in the first place.

Because, let's face it - most FFXI players, if the OForums are any indication, are pants on head retarded.

Yeah I seriously an beginning to lose my faith in the FFXI community. I mean, I have been playing WoW, and I know their community sucks, but damn. FFXI isn't all that far back, just take a look at the forums.

Not that I ever did in the past, but if I had felt bad for posting/laughing at people in the Gimp/Confused/WTF threads on BG, I wouldn't anymore.

In many threads lately, posters here and on other sites have displayed their superior knowledge of how best to manage a multi-million dollar corporation. Who knew we had so many CEOs up ins?

It kinda reminds me of how when I was little, I didn't understand how my parents could make thousands of dollars a month and yet somehow we couldn't spring for Showbiz Pizza every night. The amount of money passing through SE's accounts is incomprehensible in comparison; they should be able to afford damn near anything, right? One could extend this into a discussion of the federal budget if one wanted to ruin the forum.

Well I don't claim to know everything, but how can some white-collar jackass bitch and moan about not getting his 10th pay raise in a row while simultaneously cutting unemployment, welfare, food stamp, and Medicaid benefits?

                                Let's talk about that.
