    Announcing the World Merge
    __________________________________________________

    FINAL FANTASY XI Official Web Site

    To allow players to enjoy all the content the game has to offer, we will be performing a World Merge.

    Please refer to the "Guidance on the World Merge" below for more details.

    [Guidance on the World Merge]

    - Schedule
    World Merge will be performed during the upcoming maintenance scheduled for Mar. 16, 2011. Once the maintenance is complete, characters from the "Source Worlds" will be migrated automatically to the "Destination Worlds."

    * The schedule for the maintenace will be released at a later date.

    - Details on the World Merge
    The following is a list of Worlds designated for the World Merge.

    Source World -> Destination World

    Ramuh -> Bahamut
    Alexander -> Shiva
    Titan -> Phoenix
    Gilgamesh -> Carbuncle
    Unicorn -> Fenrir
    Ifrit -> Odin
    Diabolos -> Siren
    Caitsith -> Ragnarok

    * Other Worlds will not be affected.

    - Things to note for the World Merge

    Character Data:
    Other than the data listed below, all character data will be transferred to the new World. This includes character status, items held by the player character, items stored in Mog safes, banks, and the like, items held by NPCs, gil, and key items.

    Character Name:
    In cases where a character with the same name already exists on the "Destination World," you may be required to change the name of your character. If this is necessary, your character name on the character selection screen before login will be displayed in yellow. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the change.

    Changing the character name will not affect data such as your Friends List.

    Items stored in the Delivery Box or Auction House:
    Items and gil stored in the Delivery Box or Auction House will be deleted automatically when the World Merge takes place. Please move them to your character's belongings or Mog Safe before the World Merge.

    Please note that items and gil lost in the merge cannot be restored through the Item Restoration service.

    Added Mar. 2, 2011 at 22:10 (PST):
    * Items and gil will only be deleted on the "Source World." There will be no impact on the "Destination World."

    Linkshell, Pearlsack and Linkpearl:
    Pearlsacks and Linkpearls cannot be carried over to the "Destination World," and will disappear during the World Merge. Linkshell owners will receive an unopened Linkshell when they log into the "Destination World" for the first time. Unopened Linkshells will not be affected by the merge.

    Please note that you will need to create a new Linkshell Community after creating a new linkshell on the "Destination World."

    - Suspension of the World Transfer Service The World Transfer service will be suspended from Mar. 7, 2011 7:00 a.m. PST until the World Merge is complete.

      Dead game etc etc

      /sarcasm

      EDIT: Looking at BG, many of the servers that are going poof are in the 1200-1600 range. Now far be it from me to judge since I haven't played in over a year, but considering more people do things with less, aren't smaller servers better?

        It may be good for the max level pop... but not for the low level pop/newplayers. Its a bit hard to actually find a leveling party for lower levels, and not many people actually want to do the parties.

          SE is concerned with money. More servers = more money.

                ah I can hear the non sarcastc "dead game" people now ;p

                This was going to happen, its an MMORPG that is 7 years old (8 in Japan) and now that the next gen FF is out (even though it has problems) the game is adjusting.

                I am glad I came back before the server merge, so my name is safe, that's the only thing I feel sorry for the people having to move.

                    Re: Announcing the World Merge

                    Endgame wise - smaller servers are better, bad reputations get around more quickly, so there's an incentive to behave.. That and players from various regions are more compelled to work together.

                    A high population of a particular region at endgame can be rather uncivil, though if the odds are evened and the population density is maxed out, those endgame shells will likely be more compelled to play nice, work together and get shit done for the sake of everyone's time. Many AV attempts and eventual kills were accomplished through LSes working together.

                    That said, they can merge the servers all they like, all they're shaking up is endgame and fixing nothing about the low and intermediate levels of the game in regards to finding a party - all they've really done is make soloing and skill-ups more appealing because people now just run around the specter and urban legends about sub-level parties. It was this way like a year before I quit, so raising skill-ups and EXP on mobs is only going to make that situation worse.

                    The whole Abyssea and level cap raise was poorly planned and poorly implemented with no real thought given to improvingthe game on the whole, instead just keeping the high level players happy. So here we have our second world merge in less than two years, mostly because the game indeed not welcoming to newcomers, even with all the EXP boosts, rings and fields of valor.

                    And now that the high levels players are overfed on EXP and merits, there's little else to do but Abyssea since they can overpower just about any other content. And things like Dynamis were already painfully routine.

                    Server merges = more people per server, more people per server = more fun
                    Don't worry, you'll grow out of that.

                      Re: Announcing the World Merge

                      I'm a survivor of the last merger.
                      To be honest moving to Leviathan wasnt a big deal to me "I'm in my own little world most of the time anyway" The only thing that sucked was losing my name to a character that to this day has never had any ah history. I'd say thats the only bad thing about the mergers. All servers use the same zones so they dont look any different. There was just alot more people around and most didnt care if you was merged here or not.
                      There will be the usual rants on forums with "them vs us" posts and the odd /sh argument but that's just it really, The tools that will be causing the problems will be the tools both servers would of been glad to get rid of before the merge. So whilst that was all going on the rest of us were enjoying the game.

                      I saw it for the potential to make new friends, Gain new members for our Ls. To this day I've never been hassled for being a Remoran.

                        Does this mean people in Fenrir will start asking Unicorn immigrants for their papers when trying to do a mission?

                          CaitSith + Ragnarok = Catnarok.

                          Catnarok - Encyclopedia Dramatica

                          Catnarok is the long-awaited epic battle between Longcat and Tacgnol, or Tacgnol dna Longcat. This cosmic battle has been foretold since the beginning of time.

                          Ceiling cat will warn Anonymous that Catnarok is nigh. It will be the meow of doom. The Internet Hate Machine will begin to operate at maximum force. Limecat will not be amused. Happy Snake will be happy. The pool will be closed. Raptor Jesus will go extinct. Auschwitz will be fired up again. Gay porn will be posted on every MySpace page. All iPods will be stolen. Curtains will be drawn. LOL will be corrupted. No dogs will be left to buy. All furry fans will be yiffing in hell. Lazers will be charged to previously unknown levels.

                          It will be the Day of Reckoning.
