    Version Update Preview (09/07/2010)

Besides the plethora of job-related adjustments and additions already announced, the upcoming version update will usher in a broad spectrum of other refinements. Players can look forward to improvements in areas such as search comments, Walk of Echoes, Abyssea, and the quest Inside the Belly.

    Search Comment

Trial of the Magians will be added as a new search comment category, allowing Magian trial parties to be formed with greater ease.

    Walk of Echoes

Considerable changes will be applied to the Walk of Echoes, making it more accessible and rewarding than before.
    - The time limit for battlefields will be extended, and monster behavior adjusted.
    - The method of performance evaluation will be revised.
    - The conditions for receiving the right to cast lots on victory spoils will be alleviated.

    Inside the Belly

The variety of fishes applicable to the Inside the Belly quest will be expanded, allowing for new items to be obtained.

    Abyssea

Abyssean monsters will yield greater amounts of cruor, a phenomenon theorized by scientists as a potential side effect of the perpetually crimson sky. Adventurers will also be given the option to place items obtained from pyxides into the pool of lot spoils.

The new NPC "Horst" will be posted in Port Jeuno. Adventurers may request Horst to instantaneously teleport them to any Cavernous Maw leading to an Abyssea area they have previously visited.

*"Vision of Abyssea" and "Scars of Abyssea" require the "Rise of the Zilart" and "Wings of the Goddess" expansions to be installed and registered.
*The game data for "Scars of Abyssea" will be distributed via the FINAL FANTASY XI version update scheduled for Thursday, September 8, 2010.

Besides the above, many more additions and refinements are in the works. All the juicy details can be perused upon the release of the September version update!

And, once again, NA/EU groups will ignore the label entirely and use it as some funky category of lot choices in Dynamis or something.

Whoa! Whoa! Hold the horses! SE ... is really reading the forums now? Does that mean we should complain more and louder in the future? (Even if not on this not-so-popular forum, I'm sure SE would at least pay attention to BG and Allakhazam.)

Transportation is not a huge deal, but nice never the less. (There goes my plan to play tele taxi in Jeuno, though. I just came up with the plan last night, too. /sigh)

Rather have a way to check time remaining outside of Abyssea zones, and have a clear and direct answer to "How many more stones is the NPC holding for me?" Still, it's nice. (Of course, for JP groups who love to gather everyone together before heading out, this one-stop transport must seem nicer than it is to us.)

Overall, I'm impressed; did SE hired a new manager in the customer service department? This has to be the fastest response to customer annoyance topics (i.e. issues two grades below "will blow up servers") we've ever seen.
    Bamboo shadows sweep the stars,
    yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
Moonlight pierces the depths of the pond,
leaving no trace in the water.

...which might be necessary depending on what the new armor trials are like. Right now people seem to be getting along fine soloing, or showing up to camp and then joining whoever is there, or maybe inviting a few LS mates for things like cactuars, but if there's trials that can't be easily soloed at 85...

I'm surprised they did this now, at the same time that the level cap is still going up. It seems like higher level players with new gear would have solved some of these problems just through higher performance (aside from the evaluation thing). But maybe they intend to add harder battlefields later and so they want players to be making some progress on the entry-level ones now.

Abyssean monsters will yield greater amounts of cruor, a phenomenon theorized by scientists as a potential side effect of the perpetually crimson sky.
This suggests that either there will be new and more expensive stuff to buy with cruor, or fights that you actually NEED primeval brew for. Or both.

Adventurers will also be given the option to place items obtained from pyxides into the pool of lot spoils.
      Convenient.

      Even more convenient.

But if they were really listening to player feedback, they'd move keys to the top of the buy list and allow them to be bought by the stack.
Defeated: Maat, Divine Might, Fenrir, Kirin, Cactrot Rapido, Xolotl, Diabolos Prime, Kurrea, 9/10 Dynamis Bosses (missing Tav), Promathia, Proto-Ultima, Proto-Omega, 4 Jailers, Apocalypse Nigh, 6/6 Nyzul Bosses
      RDM90, PLD90, DRG90, COR90, SCH90, BLU54
All Nations Rank 10, ZMs & PMs Complete, AUMs Complete, Captain, Nyzul Floor 100 (5 Weapons, 4 WS), Medal of Altana, WotG Mission 15, 1/3 Addons Complete, 9/9 Abyssea Main Quests, 6/6 Caturae

When is an MMO gamer ever not complaining? For someone to play an MMORPG and not be ritually complaining about it would make then an anomaly. We would hunt them down and hurl words like "apologist" at them because they're not crabbing and bitching all the time. And if they cite that we're not game designers, oh man, its on because the mere act of playing a video game clearly makes everyone a genius, obviously.

Seriously, but on a development team for an MMORPG is probably one of the most thankless jobs on Earth. Even the folks at Blizzard apparently don't get anything right. When FFXIV comes out, SE will be rewarded with money and tons of bitching. When WoW gets Cataclysm, for every sale they will be berated.

Because in a game so wide and vast, there's always some "poor me" nutbar just begging for attention.

Considering the locations of the 3 new areas... I'm very happy they did this. Way, way easier to just head to Port J particularly since a lot of people are gathering there now anyway.

          I hope they adjust WoE enough to actually make it playable, I was looking forward to it so much but then it ended up being an utter failure. Curious about just how much cruor mobs will yield (also makes me think AF3 is going to cost quite a lot of cruor) and I'd like to see some more adjustments as follows;

Fix abyssite drop conditions already SE. The low drop rates are annoying enough without them only going to the 1st person to aggro a mob, especially NMs like Chasmic Hornet.

This might be asking too much, but could adjust the priority on blue caskets? I agree that it should be luck based to an extent, but there's nothing more infuriating to a group running low on time then seeing nothing but back-to-back restore and temporary item/cruor chests! Please give TE & EXP a higher priority... not a lot, but enough that they aren't so bloody rare.

Either that or add an abyssite to the new areas that enhances the chances of TEs (which would be a better solution probably)

There's already more bitching about XIV than they can handle XD (and rightly so)

Seems there's some very cool things in line for us this time ... seems like SE has really been making some strides to make FFxi more approachably addictive for those wanting to leave.

I'm personally loving this Horst guy bit. I'm tired of running everywhere slowly... so tired of that. As I refuse to pay for taxi's cuz my first experience of it was spoiled very long ago and I see it as a total waste of hard earned gil.

Glad for the more cruor bit as well. If you're a key-bearer it was slightly hit or miss breaking even unless you're able to spend hours upon hours out there. I have nothing I want anymore with cruor... until the update gives us more. I agree thought that them keys need to be at the top o' the list and able to be bought in stacks.

Haven't done any Walk of Echoes but I'm guessing that it was because of the issues with some majore players in fights unable to lot on the rewards.

The Abyssea changes are enough to make me go ahead and plop down the ten bucks for the next expansion Just Because.

I wish they had mentioned something about buying keys in a stack, because that's totally stupid, especially when we're getting more cruor now. But Horst? Wow, not only will that bring chocobo prices back in line, but I'm already thinking of the possibilites for being another way to get around. (Though admittedly Gustaberg sucks even from the OP, and Windurst isn't so bad via the Saruta maw.) Of course you have to start in Jeuno, not WG, but maybe this will make Jeuno HP not so bad.

Are we going to have the usual mid-day update for this? I think I can forget any game time tomorrow. Now that I have a real job, it'll probably be impossible to get a download all night. I'll be lucky to get one started before I go to sleep. I really liked the morning update last week.

I knew I was forgetting something when I read this update... hopefully they will sneak that into the final update notes. God, if we still have to buy keys 1 at a time.... it's such an unnecessary hassle that only serves to waste precious abyssea time.

And it's from 9~13:00 PDT, but we all know that's gonna get extended at least once or twice. Come to think of it, has SE ever done an update without extending the maintenance?
