    The impending version update will usher in the second stage of the level cap increase, bringing players' maximum attainable level from 80 to 85!

    To provide a fitting challenge to players who achieve these newfound heights of power, we will be adjusting monster level and placement in certain Treasures of Aht Urhgan areas to create daunting new battlegrounds.

    A host of new abilities, job traits, and spells will also be added for the newly-unlocked levels. Needless to say, these will be designed to provide players with exciting new possibilities while preserving game balance as they achieve even higher levels in the future.

    New Job Abilities



    - White Mage: An ability offering increased resistance against status ailments.
    - Red Mage: An ability that enhances the potency of enfeebling magic.
    - Bard: An ability that prevents songs cast on oneself from being overwritten.
    - Beastmaster: A new pet command.
    - Dragoon: A new jump.
    - Summoner: New blood pacts.
    - Corsair: New phantom rolls
    - Dancer: A new step.

    New Job Traits

    - Monk: Skillchain Bonus
    - White Mage: Shield Def. Bonus
    - Red Mage: Mag. Burst Bonus
    - Thief: Dual Wield
    - Dark Knight: Crit. Atk. Bonus
    - Bard: Fencer
    - Ninja: Skillchain Bonus
    - Corsair: True Shot
    - Puppetmaster: Crit. Def. Bonus

    New Spells



    - Enhancement spells that increase the attributes of party members
    - Magic spells to manage enmity levels
    - A song that reduces damage taken by party members
    - New ninjutsu
    - New blue magic spells

    These new abilities will be covered in further detail in future articles, so keep watching this space!

    Yay for RDM enfeeble potency traitdammit that's a JA isn't it?
    Some of these look completely off the mark though, like White Mage getting anything to do with a shield.
    I'm not terribly impressed or discouraged at this point since there's no real details to be had.

      Okay, once again very pissed at this. Really SE? 85? So does that mean only 9 in December, or you're going to make us grind 14 leves in 1 update instead of 9? orz

      Let's just take it in for a moment;


      Lv 85 vs 90: Fail

      - White Mage: An ability offering increased resistance against status ailments. Win
      - Red Mage: An ability that enhances the potency of enfeebling magic. Win
      - Bard: An ability that prevents songs cast on oneself from being overwritten. Win
      - Beastmaster: A new pet command. Win
      - Dragoon: A new jump. Win (if it doesn't share a timer like the last one)
      - Summoner: New blood pacts. Win
      - Corsair: New phantom rolls Win (haste roll finally?)
      - Dancer: A new step. Win

      The new abilities all sound pretty good, but when we get into the traits...


      New Job Traits

      - Monk: Skillchain Bonus Fail, but possibly win.
      - White Mage: Shield Def. Bonus Fail, win for soloing but honestly fail
      - Red Mage: Mag. Burst Bonus Win
      - Thief: Dual Wield Epic fucking win for THF/WAR, but THF uses /NIN for more than DW.
      - Dark Knight: Crit. Atk. Bonus Epic fucking fail here SE. God forbid you give DRK some native MAB finally.
      - Bard: Fencer yet more epic fail what happened to focusing on end game balance?
      - Ninja: Skillchain Bonus are you even thinking anymore? How about occult ocumen?
      - Corsair: True Shot Actually pretty epic win here
      - Puppetmaster: Crit. Def. Bonus What the hell SE... just what the hell.


      The spells are pretty cool but again... I have to face palm.

                Why epic fail.... you do know that not everything revolves around taking dow big bosses right, that endgame is multiple facets, hell we still don't know what walk of echoes will be considered and at the moment it is required for job to deal damage like they would in Campaign. This is a good thing fora BRD in a DD party who is gettng DD buffs, it mean he can now WS a bit better (140% evis means more Crit chance). Just because you buff and stand doesn't mean everyone else does (I know mny brds who /DNC for the sole purpose of being able to get 10 extra ACC have some utility and melee in between buff cycles.)

                Are you really that naive. A teir 3 nuke from a job who wears minimal to no nuking gear, won't wear a staff, and you want MAB on a spell that will b highly resisted. Come on now. A Crit bonus is excellent for these guys considering their natively low DEX and there for natively low Crit rate. If it applies on WS even better since most of the DRK's WS do not offer the chance of critical inreases. This means on multis like gulliotine you have a greater chance to do more damage.

                Ggod damn it my brain hurts from your ridiculous expectations.

                    If BRD is doing melee at any group event outside of EXP (and even then) something is seriously wrong. t;dr Bard did not need this anymore than it needed critical defense bonus.

                    Are you completely retarded? DRK has B+ elemental magic natively. On top of Occult Ocumen, if they'd gotten some fucking MAB traits finally lord knows it just might be worth it to MB but no SE opts out for critical hit damage on a job with no crit abilities or WS outside of Ragnarok. Sheer fucking genius SE.

                    Same goes for you. SE is showing blatant incompetence here, and by going in stages of 5 this only proves that 99 = easy mode. At least if Heroes of Abyssea had been directed towards the 90~99 crowd instead of (presumably and with good precedence) 85~90, then there may have been some legit challenge there but no, they're being stupid. I mean good lord adjusting ToAU mobs? Two things;

                        People didn't see Abyssea exp coming, and whined about how hard it would be to get to Lv.80. Most of the Lv.76-80 job JA/traits/spells/etc. weren't super impressive sounding, so people griped--but we more or less play the game like we have been doing anyway, so no big deal.

                        Obviously some of the job adjustments announced this time are not meant for party/alliance play, and some are just plain bluffing, but it's a bit too early to judge the overall quality of the update.

                        For all we know, SE may have changed its plan about Lv.99 by end of the year, and decided to stretch it out to next June. *shrug* Right now, I don't really mind one way or another--my most used SJs are Lv.50 (or higher) now, I can deal. It's not like I don't know which jobs I use more often than others; would be easy to prioritize which to level first after any amount of level cap increase.

                        DNC48, so just need another level or two... Then, on to THF(42), DRK(42), DRG(37), and ... Guess I should level WAR(44) up anyway. WAR was fun when I could get party, but /WAR is nearly useless to me.

                              They never said end of the year, don't know where this keeps coming from, they said

                              1. The Cap will be 99
                              2. Here is our plan for THIS YEAR (2010)

                              notice how those are 2 separate things. For all we know that little fancy calender they have extends till next december too.
                              Not surprising when you consider we have been climbing in 5 level bunches for the last 30 levels (50/55/60/65/70/75/80/85/90/95/99)

                              Again more speculating on something that has never been confirmed.
