  • New Trials (of the Magians) Await Ambitious Adventurers! (05/27/2010)

Are you one of the many adventurers longing to further augment your equipment with marvelous moogle magic via Trial of the Magians? Then you'll be heartened to know that additions and refinements to the system are on the way!

The details are but a click away, kupo!

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Are you one of the many adventurers longing to further augment your equipment with marvelous moogle magic via Trial of the Magians? Then you'll be heartened to know that additions and refinements to the system are on the way!

    New Weapon Trials

The impending version update will usher in new trials allowing adventurers to take weapons already augmented via prior Magian accomplishments and enhance them further. Needless to say, new trial sequences for relic and mythic weapons will be included among these.

Adventurers will also find new trial varieties available, such as those affording the opportunity to power up one's weapon skills.

These additions are only the tip of the iceberg, however, as future updates promise to unveil the most challenging and rewarding trials yet. It will take every onz of courage and persistence at your disposal to upgrade your weapon to the limit of its capabilities, but rest assured that the prize that awaits you will be worth every step of the journey.

    The Miraculous Magian Spectacles

Another addition will be a new item, the "magian spectacles," which may be purchased from the Magian Moogle for a nominal fee. This handy tool will aid in your trials by summoning a Magian trial log to your side, allowing you to review your progress from dungeons or afield.

    Trial Objectives Revisited

Certain trial objectives have been reevaluated and will see target quotas reduced among other adjustments. You need not fear if you've already embarked on a trial, for these changes will also be reflected in trials underway at the time of the update.

This announcement has three things that make me go "bummer": no word on Magian Trials for equipment that is not Magian, Mythic, or Relic weaponry yet; minimal mention of what awaits in the new Trials for the aforementioned weapons; and basically stating that "all the cool stuff won't be here until future updates."

It's almost a bummer that they seem to be doing more of the same for these new trials as well, except that even as tedious as the Magian Trials in their current state seem to be, it is still a very nice reward/effort ratio, and S-E did say that they would even lighten that up a bit, so I can't see very much reason to complain (other than the "I've already sunk in the time to kill hundreds of dhalmels to get where I am now" thing, but that sentiment should wear off relatively quickly).

Still, I can't wait to see what further cool stuff can be applied to that already sexy Magic Accuracy+10 Soulsaber. Including all the super-cool but hard-to-get stuff that's apparently not going to be ready yet until "future updates."

Oh really? Because you felt 150 Soulflayers during lightining day/weather where your puppet has to deal the finishing blow was not enough huh?

      Fantastic...bring on the pain

      ----------
Bah…as bitter as I am about the upcoming trial above. I’m really enjoying some of the end results these weapons offer.

Pups can get even more Pet: Mag Acc/MAB.
I finished my second axe for my Bst. Now I have 2 axes with Pet: PDT -5%

Fits nicely with my moogle hat and shepard chain (Pet: -22% PDT woooot)

Hmmmm... They need to add something to see how far your progress is...

        Kinda like....

/trial "###" to see how many you have left/killed on that trial.

Instead of spending like 10k for the spectacles that will work about 5 times every 24 hours or so...

ya those specticle are a complete waist. would be cooler if you could summon a moggle to help you kill mobs. like an extra NPC buddy.

I'm disapointed that they havent mentioned more of the possibility of augmenting armor in this fashion but oh well they keep saying more to come so just have to wait and see i guess

Roughly translated, if you're not in an HNM shell don't get excited.

I rather have the moogle come to where you are and allow you to accept a new trial right then and there. or even give you starting weapons.

There was a couple times where i finished one early on earthday and by the time i did all the traveling too the moogle and back...the day was about over.

Spectacles, however, have historically always been head equips, and very fashionable ones, at that.

ok...good point not a complete waist fashion wise, but usablility is another story. I might actually pick up a pair if they're "fashionable" enough.

ps. thanks for the spell check

When you finally get to 75 and are able to do the Trials get back to me with your experiences of attaining an OAT weapon.

Because OAT weapons are the only thing you can get with Magian Trials (ignoring the OAT weapon branch that doesn't even involve HNMs)

Here's hoping they reduce the needs on my current trials (400 plants and then 300 ladybugs UGH) and maybe even the Krab Shells given what a pain it is getting a T3 key only to see no shells drop.

Moreover, I'm hoping I haven't wasted my time going for the Kurodachi. If that thing becomes a 2-3 hit GKT this update (along with the the OAT's with +DMG) then O to the M to the GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Bigger Badder Soboro {I'm interested.} And powering up WS? Umm, maybe SE didn't get the memo but SAM doesn't need stronger WS. Y/G/K and even Rana are already rather OP. Drakesbane and KJ are also pretty freaking beastly, oh god never mind Slugwinder... Power Creep anyone?

For my dancer the Kartika and the Verthandi-version Athame are the only weapons I'm remotely interested in. Considering my playstyle the weaker OAT weapon is a waste of effort to attain due to the terrible damage rating. Of course, you're not interested in that, you just thought you'd attempt to look smart by being pedantic and to that end I'm happy to have brought a brief blip of joy into your life today.
